This is a game which is interesting and is creative. Unfortunately, it also is painful to figure stuff out once you get past 20ish. 5/5, but know that little past the first badge is for the faint of heart.
There's only a level cap until you complete the game, at which point you can get all of the perks except for one. I recommend you ignore the "Instant Level" perk.
That may be Final Death Wish, but I think its like that here too.
An interesting idea would be to have a sort of bestiary for buildings, a "Building Catalouge" accessible from the main menu. Something that would allow you to see what you have already made. Structures that haven't been built are not shown of course, though there might be a vague hint. Would be nice for keeping track of structures built so far and how they were made. Save slots would be nice of course, but that's secondary.
I still haven't figure out how to get a Lighthouse.
This would be amazing if it had a campaign mode (basically normal gameplay with preset maps). Overall a very nice game, a bit vague in what the goal is, but still pleasant and enjoyable.
Hm. Hypothetical spoilers:
Unrelated to the current plot, but I have a sneaking suspicion that if One-Eye were to become a zombie, he would remember his life as a human.
Sorry for posting several times in a row, but have you considered adding a second save slot? This would allow for people to have a second one for looking at the "sub-endings" (or lack thereof), like *SPOILER* Lurogan in this one, and somewhat Rumble in Murder Case. Since you can't "undo" getting a clue, a second save slot would be better for people who want to try it without the "sub-ending" but don't want to lose all of their progress.
Thank you for all your nice comments! To answer your question, I DID consider to add a second save slot, but in the end I didn't because once you find all the clues you can still watch all the wrong endings, so that would be redundant
I...you...wow.
I should have seen this coming. I really should have. But I didn't. Glad to see you still have the knack for storytelling. That was beautiful.
"What's the worst that could happen?"
Well, considering that you guys are the undead and this place looks like Dracula's castle, you could all be slaughtered by a maniac with a whip. Or you could be trapped inside a solar eclipse (?) for a while with some guy with a sword binding your souls to him. Or you could be dragged into an elaborate chain of riddles where you have to find a rare treasure and/or solve a mystery.
Let's go with the last one.
I'd like to imagine that this guy isn't the true "antagonist" but rather his disillusioned apprentice or something who is trying to get rid of his former master's guards. Choppy Orc was already in that last chest I guess. Also, you now have enough characters for a small adventuring party- Choppy Orc (ranger?), One Trick Mage, and now the Sticky Sorcerer (I don't know why he is sticky.). Sleepy Knight is sleeping, right?
Tip: Necromancers can be combined with Barracks to make a near inescapable killzone where as you progress it gets harder to cross. Alric is the best hero of all because he can summon sand warriors to stop the incoming onslaught. The walking cannon can be repositioned, and is useful for bombarding foes enmass. Its like a quick Big Bertha with less power. I prefer Assassins, but others may want Templars. The Storm Mages are not to be underestimated and can save your bacon, but Necromancers are instrumental to winning later on.
Its kinda funny when you are forever one star away from getting the hard badge not because the final level is too hard, but because you always wind up losing track of one of those darn invisible lizard thingies. Nightscales, we call em.
If it helps any, the Boomer path with Tech core (Laser eyes) is the most effective set up. Explosions/Magic only take off one layer, darts are too clustered, tech is practically melee until later on. Boomers are swift, strong and get auto-targeting. Works like a charm.
@Magnitis
As a joke and a reference to how many early RPGs had the final boss drop an endgame weapon (Like Kefka holding the Ragnarok). You could never actually use it, but it was there.
For those who are still worried: EBF5 is almost done. The Public Beta is basically complete, though there will be improvements when it finally arrives at Kong along with some post-release stuff (like Jack and co in EBF4). We're looking at late 2018 or early 2019, but I assure it is worth it. The new EBF is on par with (if not surpassing) the fourth.
I would like to suggest you consider making something of a semi-open world style platformer, a la Elephant Quest. Not quite a Metroidvania (such as Snaliad) but rather something where you can explore the area and put your skills to multiple uses. Maybe having One Trick Mage and Choppy Orc as the two characters (Sleepy Knight is too busy sleeping to do anything of course). Also, trapezing across the landscape would be so much fun :D
5/5, you started strong and are improving exponentially. I look forward to anything you have in store.
Who knows...
