I've played a bit longer. It gets better once you get out of the park. I'm liking it more. But the newspaper problem shows up again.
Also, it'd be nice to be able to shoot down the missiles. And to have some indication of boss health.
On the asteroid levels... I kept having them pop up out of nowhere. It was like the park, only worse.
And some mid-level powerups would be nice. Health pick-ups and such.
Overall, it's a good game.
Some nice improvements here over Super M. Bad guys, a life meter, weapons, powerups, some more variety. But personally I'm not so happy with the guns our hero is carrying. And the newspaper thing that happens when you rescue a hostage is really distracting, especially when you've got some tricky navigating to do on the other side of the platform. And it can be hard to see what you're doing with all those small, dark-colored objects (as opposed to the large objects and color contrast of Super M).
Oh, yeah. Something you could actually do with the coins would be nice. And maybe a consequence other than a 1up for whether you get the girl or not. And some cutscenes. (Am I getting too greedy?) And maybe a boss fight? And some kind of alternate control scheme for people who have touchpads or trackballs or something instead of a mouse?
I'm not complaining here. I gave the game four stars. Just tossing out ideas for the sequel. (There will be a sequel, right?)
Oh, hey. There's Super B. I think I'll go give that a try...
Fun game! More sounds would be nice (for when you rescue the lady, and maybe some wind noises and such). And yeah, some variety and powerups wouldn't hurt, either.
Still, I like the gameplay, I like the look and theme... Good job! :)
(Sorry, accidentally hit "post" while typing.) As I was saying, even though it looks useful, I haven't officially discovered the need for wall jumping (I think that's what they were doing), so I can't learn the ability? That doesn't seem right to me.
Oh, for those having trouble finding abilities... Don't be afraid to explore around. you have to find the right creatures. Sometimes, that means falling down pits. Don't worry. The fall won't kill you (unless there's lava or something at the bottom).
Also, it can be hard to control jumps once you upgrade them. Sometimes, you don't want to jump the maximum distance.
And I just came across some creatures with an interesting ability, but apparently I can't learn it from them yet because I
I like the concept. Having to learn everything by watching the animals. It's a little too easy to get lost, though. Everything looks the same within an area, and there's a lot of territory to cover.
Also, it can be annoying trying to move from one screen to the next because you can't see where you're going until you move past the edge of the current screen. That means you sometimes have to make blind jumps to get where you're going. It can get frustrating, especially with the screen flicking back and forth with every missed jump. It's even worse when you're trying to make blind jumps across lava pits.
It's an interesting start, but I don't see that there's enough to really judge it yet. There isn't much to the demo, and what there is doesn't really stand out from other platformers.
Looking forward to seeing what comes of further development.
Ackbar is an *admiral*, not a *general*. If you're going to be enough of a SW geek to expect people to recognize his face, at least get his rank right.
Also... I'm with Raiden. If you're going to make NG trivia integral to the game, why post it here?
Weirdest. Bejeweled. Clone. Ever.
Seconded.
Interesting twist, at least. But would have been nice to have nicer colors and/or different creatures. Gray and drab pink snail-creatures aren't the most fun things to look at, IMO.
For the final boss... keep your distance. The laser is used more when you're close by. If you pull back a bit, it should start using the missiles. Then just time your bounces so you can hit the window and rebound up before the laser pushes you down into the pit.
On the other side of things... Note to self: If my giant evil army is ever faced with an IndestructoTank, order them to *hold their fire*!
