I managed to pull off a bit of sequence breaking by getting the green key without going through the monster room.. I wonder if there's more? You should totally start the player out with some hidden abilities. Mebbe a wall-jump-esque thing? Could totally do with an infusion of Super Metroid.
"Whoah, I'm going pretty fast. Will I get the badge?"

"GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA"
I love this game though, seriously. I don't know how you did it, but it's calm and serene as well as tense and exciting at the same time. I didn't even think that was possible! And the adrenaline rush of getting a perfect tunnel and doing an enormous leap over a jump? Sublime. The difficulty curve is pure awesome because it doesn't really exist. After my 6th play or so I was doing wild flips and supreme jumps. Really, the only thing in between the player and the high scores list is, well, the player. This is like what Canabalt was, only all-new. And seriously, any canabalt-y game without windows (%&%@$&%$ windows) has pretty much won my heart from the beginning. 5/5, two thumbs (and one big toe), and totally, totally faved.
Is there any reason that it's impossible to finish the first mission?
*engage enemy* YOU LOSE.
*follow guys* *NOTHING FRIKIN' HAPPENS*
*exit area* YOU LOSE
srsly.
Worst game in the series. Visually decreased via an attempted upgrade, but you're forgetting- this is a cheery series, not a kewl super-awesome magical uber-graphics game. Audio... were you trying to orchestrate this? Because you FAILED. And finally, gameplay wise- Wow. Okay, so first you have the DON'T HIT WHITE GOOD GUYS EVEN THOUGH THEY'RE EVERYWHERE AND ARE ALWAYS, ALWAYS RIGHT NEXT TO A BAD GUY, then you have the lack of ceiling and outer walls (wtf? no ceiling? bottomless pit floor?), then you have the fact that 90% of the puzzles can be solved by clicking randomly.
That missile robot underneath the alcove in the start of level 8 is placed so stupidly that you can actually save health by shooting yourself over the starting wall with a grenade. Seriously.
The Merchant was actually reeeeally easy, if only because I had bought all the ultimate equipment from the shop on floor 99 after buying minimum potions throughout my play. Also, Titanium Longsword is totally awesome.
