In light of how this one ends...am I seriously the only one wondering if the psychedelic segments between "rounds" is the O Tribe attempting to invoke dark magic in an effort to stop the X Tribe?
Honestly, the one thing this game is missing is a Nonstandard Game Over: if you refuse to take the photos the game wants you to, there should be some kind of threatening message, followed by a gunshot off-screen...then pan out to show a corpse at the foot of the television before the game restarts (possibly with a message like "DON'T MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE"). Helps drive home the message that the media would be perfectly willing to drop anyone who refuses to play to their tune...although I like to THINK that they wouldn't resort to offing uncooperative photographers yet.
Note for anyone stuck on the first boss: You have to right click while your cursor is INSIDE the leftmost white box, THEN click on the button. You'll know you did it right if a yellow outline appears around the button; if it's around the left box, you did it wrong.
Apart from a LOT of trial-and-error gameplay near the end, this game was nothing short of amazing. A perfect commentary on an important issue without being heavy-handed or self-righteous!
Forget Ninjas. Forget Amazons. Heck, forget Iron Guards, Smugglers, Divers, and the Pirate Flagship. The REAL ultimate enemies of this game are...the BUILDINGS. How in the eff am I supposed to Brilliant-rank the later levels when it takes several DOZEN Cut Outs to destroy everything that wants to screw me over on the map (and keep in mind, this is AFTER I get the Mana Wells for added mana regen)?!
I like the idea and execution of this game, but...would it have KILLED the developer(s) to give it a save function?! Nothing stinks worse than getting SO close to a badge puzzle...and then having life intervene to deny my prize.
Luck is with me - I got almost twice the number of points needed for the hard badge in one try! Thank you, lucky chain of Bubbles Only and Bubble Gravity!
Interesting take on a classic myth, and an "A" for effort, but the nasty difficulty curve and repetitive (albeit decent) music forces me to relegate my score to a 3.
For the record, I tried getting the hero ending with the fruit of youth, and it doesn't seem any different than the "normal" hero ending. I guess the dude's warning about the fruit is more for the challenge freaks - "what fun is there in beating the game with infinite stamina?"
It's an interesting game, I'll give it that, but it could use A) higher money rewards on the bonus levels, B) better AI for the other three heroes, and C) the option of changing difficulty on the final boss (maybe as bonus levels?). Right now, he's so tough you basically NEED maxed-out heroes AND runes to take him down...either that, or I need a better strategy.
Huh. Not entirely sure what to make of this game...which might really be the point. Definitely better than most "escape the room" games I've seen - especially since there wasn't anything especially creepy for the sake of being creepy.
The game is pretty fun...right up until the last two levels. The "upgraded" dark-matter ships are WAY too powerful for their own good - even with the ultimate ship, their shots kill you in three or four hits, their collisions kill you in five or six, and the maxed-out ultimate weapons take forever to kill them! Nerf please?
This game is fun, but the premise is pure depression. Bad enough that the Dibbles sacrifice themselves in brutal and painful-looking ways to save their king, bad enough that the music and atmosphere are both very sad and desolate, but the cherry on top are the little details - snow builds up on the Dibbles and stones as time goes on, and if you pause the game with a Dibble out, the poor thing looks at you and SHIVERS from the cold.
For anyone wondering (i.e. no one), my endgame strategy was to summon Doggar, Orcs, and crepeloads of Skeleton Archers (all maxed out). Resummon as needed and focus on picking off heroes and anyone heading for your portal first; support from Blizzard and Meteor works wonders. After you've built up some corpses, summon Alice Jeezebel for even MORE reinforcements - and if it's unlocked, the Diablo spell is a nice finishing touch. I turn on Auto-movement after I've gotten a good offensive going, but as long as you keep a steady stream of reinforcements coming and keep enemies away from the portal, you can wear even the Abyss down to nothing.
Here's a tip for people looking to get "Death to Heroes". Don't bother trying to get the special awards for any level - just beat them. Also prioritize defence over offense - spread out from the portal slowly, taking the time to intercept and kill any knights that are heading your way. Replace your troops as needed as you work your way across the map; as long as you keep any dangerous foes away from your portal, you can wear them down.
