The site wouldn't register that it gave me my bonus points because I played this game a few days ago and it won't refresh. I even tried starting a new file, losing all the progress I'd made. Then I went to the Kongpanion page and it said I already had the bonus points so I just wasted my file.
I'm not going through all that again. This sucks.
The gameplay is awful, no matter how nice the presentation or how novel the idea. These super finicky rocket jumps do not mix well with mouse aiming and the gun's very limited recoil; it feels entirely luck-based whether or not I get through a platforming segment.
You can jump twice if you run off the edge of a platform instead of jumping off. This is a useful feature, don't fix it!
A lot of the "medium" levels are harder than some of the "ultra" ones.
That sea cave level is absolutely unplayable due to lag. The volcano level was difficult and stupid. I can't tell what I'm doing until I accidentally hit a level and/or die on the hub world. The sound effect for getting killed is irritating. This is just a bad, bad game and jumping can easily get me stuck inside of blocks.
Wait, the lady's favorite games are RPGs, she is internet-savvy, and her favorite genre of film is pornography. Is this my actual girlfriend? ...and if so, does that mean Clarence is me?
I was practically falling asleep during the final level. Mostly because I was up at 2:30 in the morning playing, but still. Once you have maxed out regen and 40-ish HP there's not much threat anymore. Personally I focused on upgrading my offenses right away and I have to say this: The offensive upgrades max out way too fast. This is especially noticeable in the last four levels, which feel more slow and tedious due to enemy defenses rather than threatening or engaging.
There are many, many things wrong with this game: let me count the ways...First, the graphics are ugly. The main character's sprite was clearly designed for another resoulution, the tiles cut off towards the bottom of the play field, and the enemies don't change their facing direction when they reverse their movement. Then there's the music that is very ill-fitting for the aesthetics. The game's controls can't decide if they want to be a slippery momentum game or a floaty game and the level design can't either. There's no sound effects. Death is too easy and too quick; the levels (assuming there are more than one) are too long for this type of "death is easy" design. The game is just one big mess.
As decent as the pixel art looks, the second level is just plain completely cheap. You begin with enemies practically on top of you and no way to fight back, and then have to tank your way through a bunch of other enemies and hope you get lucky.
I would like this game a lot more if (A) It had keyboard control of some kind and (B) It had music that was nice to listen to; a dull throbbing beat and total silence are not good choices for me.
Killing the toaster was a fun side-challenge involving use of the knockback from the special attacks. I got killed by the regular enemies as soon as I did it though, but at least I still got the achievement.
Despite some of its flaws, I loved this game. I particularly liked the ending, that's what changed it from four to five stars for me.
I made it all the way to the final boss without buying a single health upgrade. Once I got to the boss I tried beating him a few times, then caved and bought it up to max. I was then able to defeat the boss rather easily just by tanking two hits in the midst of all my dodging.
Speed is borked for keyboard players. Ideal keyboard speed is around level 4 or 5; max speed is crazy on keyboard and you need to switch to mouse to make the game playable at that point.
Refreshed the game after completing the requirements for the "medium" badge and it finally gave me the five bonus points for the "easy" one (stating that I got the original badge in 2013), but the "medium" one still didn't register.
Thanks for playing. I'm already working on my next game which hopefully will be better balanced.
