@wallabyj, Straight Ball Pool is when you can pot any ball at any time - hence the name. You're confusing it with 8-Ball Pool. You can play American/World 8-Ball Pool here:
http://www.kongregate.com/games/NipponMonkey/american-8-ball-pool-beta-1
Or English 8-Ball Pool here:
http://www.kongregate.com/games/NipponMonkey/english-pub-pool
For those interested, here is the wiki page on Straight Pool - the original form of pool:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Straight_pool
P.s. all pool fans should watch The Hustler
@MisfitMomma, no probs. Also you can play the 9-ball beta at:
www.kongregate.com/games/NipponMonkey/american-9-ball-pool-beta-1
I'll tournaments to both versions when I get the time...
@MisfitMomma - I took the rules from wpa-pool.com, here is how you can lose the rack/frame:
"3.8 Losing the Rack
The shooter loses if he
(a) fouls when pocketing the eight ball;
(b) pockets the eight ball before his group is cleared;
(c) pockets the eight ball in an uncalled pocket; or
(d) drives the eight ball off the table.
These do not apply to the break shot."
So, if you foul on the black and don't pot it, then it's just a standard foul.
Also, I'm not including called shots in this game so point (c) can be ignored.
It's simple, you pot either spots or stripes in 8-ball mode. Once your group of balls is decided, you'll see a spot or a stripe next to your name - you should continue to pot them!
In straight pool mode, you can pot anything.
@hypePR, that's not true at all. All of your stats are saved on your computer. So, if you play on the same computer you'll have no problems. (NOTE: playing under a different Kong account or playing when you're not logged in to Kong will act as separate games. This allows multiple user stats on one computer.)
STATS BUG: Stats not submitting is a current bug on the Kong server, not the game. I've been chatting with the kong guys and they have confirmed the game stats are being sent, but for some unknown reason they aren't always registering on their server - I hope this will be fixed quickly, sorry.
Evyllity, the rules are pretty much correct to English Rules (see link above) and you're able to change the 8-ball rules in the game settings.
Plus I think most people would agree the physics are quite good too. Cheers
Yeah, I've noticed it too - very annoying! But I can't see anything wrong in my code and the code never changes. So I don't have a clue why sometimes the stats work and then they stop working. The older betas never used have a problem with stats, but now they aren't working all the time too. So, it looks like something has changed on the Kong site - it's really weird!
WARNING: High Scores don't seem to save properly if you have two kong pages open at the same time - this could affect you on any game. So, if you want to make sure your stats are saved, you should play the games in a single kong page only. Cheers
@Jugglinguy, that would be difficult as some stats are sent differently to others. E.g. potted balls are sent after every pot using an ADD Stat (+1) while say trophies stats are sent as a MAX Stat (only saves if higher). This means when you win your next trophy the stat will be in sync again, but the potted balls stat will be down if stats were missed. And I can't sync an ADD stat as I can't find out how many potted balls have been recorded by Kong. I could change the potted balls stats to a MAX stat, but then if you play on two computers, say at home and at work :), then your total potted balls wouldn't be right as it would only equal the total from one of the computers - cos all stats are saved locally. You'll have to play in just one browser to get the right stats :(
Thanks for all the great comments!
Jugglinguy - I'm glad you recognise my hard work. I might add a key to skip the messages, but you can already just click anywhere.
I couldn't find your youtube clip, can you post the link - I'd like to see it. It shouldn't work every time as the balls are always placed in slightly different positions, but it probably gives you a better chance of fluking it.
P.s. I like Cargo Bridge
I've tested it on a few computers and it seems to work fine. It can get a little slow if you're running too many other programs - especially other flash games. Sometimes, if you get badly made flash adverts on the page they can affect the speed too. As well as Kong's chat, for some reason when you get a Kong Award, games sometime almost stop for a moment or two!
thesupremeruler, I've not seen these bugs before and the game has been well tested on kong already. If you could whisper me more details - which game mode/etc... then I might be able to help you.
