Overall this is a clean and fast running Flash shooter that is decently fun and has some very impressive bosses. The extremely simple graphical style makes it easy to see where your ship and enemy bullets are. The very simple gameplay matches the graphics.
I only have a few complaints. First, the game is fairly non-interactive. Nothing seems to move toward you or shoot at you, it feels even more one dimensional than the average top-scroller. This leads to the second problem which is that non-boss waves are just boring. For a game called "Frantic" there sure isn't a whole lot of challenge involved. The upgraded lasers/missiles can auto-kill enemies as soon as they appear, so you never get the "screen covered with enemies" that makes the game fun. It seems like you spend much more time running after coins than running away from enemies and bullets. The game would be more playable with a higher enemy count and lower coin count. Bosses could summon additional enemies too.
Missing 8 times in a row is horrendously unlikely but possible. It's likely that the opponent had some kind of evasion or curse that he wasn't aware of.
Missing 8 times total (out of many, many attacks) is totally plausible.
Super monkeys are definitely underpowered for their price. A fully upgraded supermonkey costs over $12,000. For that price you could build TONS of smaller towers that would be more effective. I just made it to level 64 (easy) with nothing but tack and rocket towers, plus pineapple spam.
I don't know why this game is so fun. It is nowhere near as polished or balanced as Desktop or Gemcraft, and lacks basic features like flying waves or being able to see what enemies are in the next wave. But it is still FUN.
There's not enough of a difference between easy, medium, and hard. They are all very easy from 1 to 50, then level 55+ kills you in horrendously unfair ways. (furthest i've got is level 61 which seems to be a solid wall of MOABs)
Super monkey storm seems sadly underpowered... as much as it costs you'd think it would at least kill MOABs... nope, it doesn't. It is too pricey to use for level 1-50 (for which it is entirely unnecessary) but not strong enough to pull you through harder levels.
So i've beaten the game with each of the three classes. They're actually pretty well balanced. I actually had the easiest time with the Engineer, the Psionic felt the hardest and the Juggernaut was in between.
Enemy balance is extremely strange. The Mechano Troll is especially difficult for a trash mob. The Robot boss is hard, most of the other bosses are a joke. The endboss Krax is ridiculously easy. Other than Death Watch which ticks for a mere 8 damage he only has one damage-dealing attack, it doesn't really matter that he has a million defensive abilities because he takes forever to kill you.
Also, the artwork for the ships makes it hard to tell exactly what each ship is. In particular, the Corvette Fighter and Battlecruiser look nearly identical, and the Hunter Support can look similar depending on angle. The names are somewhat confusing too, what's wrong with "Destroyer" and "Cruiser"?
I like this game but the AI seems glitchy. The main problem is that it will sometimes stop building new units for no reason. You'll see the AI accumulate thousands of dollars but never spend it despite having 2 warfactories. Also, the AI is extremely offensively-minded. While it's fun to destroy tons of AI units as they banzai charge your chokepoint, once the AI has a smaller army than yours it should fall back to its own chokepoints and play a defensive game, instead of continuing to suicide lone units.
Proof that more is not better. This game is way bigger and more complicated than MMM2 but much less fun.
1) The weapons are grossly imbalanced. MGM is horrendously overpowered and easy. The other three modes are very difficult. In particular the Singularity Cannon feels very underpowered even in Sandbox mode with unlimited upgrades, it fires super slow and consumes tons of energy.
2) There are a ton of buttons to press - abilities, skill trees, purchasing ammo, etc. The complexity makes the game more confusing but doesn't make the gameplay more fun.
3) Enemy AI is inconsistent. It is generally stupider than dirt. During one game I sat back and watched as the enemies destroyed each other by colliding, it took quite some time to lose the game. However, other times it does unfair things like move out of the way of your artillery.
The game is completely based on luck and even the "IT WORKS strategy" is completely luck-driven.
Not a strategy game at all, more like a sim, and not a particularly fun one.
Also, the bubblepedia doesn't seem to contain any actual information on enemies! It would be nice to know attacks, health, and how much bubbles you get for defeating said enemy.
The tanks are all pretty well balanced except for the final forms.
The ultimate heavy and BFT carrier are insanely overpowered with their rapid-fire shot repelling ability.
The ghost sniper and ultimate fighter have well balanced primary attacks, damage output and maneuverability. However, both of their specials are amazingly underwhelming. The ultimate fighter's seekers have such a short range it's fairly suicidal to use. The ghost ability is terrible because it takes a while to disperse and reform and you can't do any damage at all while dispersed.
The mitosis carrier is useless. Your drones automatically target and destroy enemy drones so that you can't take control of them. If this was fixed it would be very strong.
The leecher is a terrible idea. It is very hard to kill due to life leech, but its firepower is minimal and feels disappointing.
My only real suggestion for improvement, other than the aforementioned deck editor, is that some of the "weak cards" really are balanced way too weak. Cards like Blast 'em, Migo surgery, and Mind blast just feel like "getting screwed" when they show up in your deck. They should be given more power or secondary effects to make them more appealing. What would be interesting would be if you could use TWO "weak cards" in one turn.
Really awesome game. Surprisingly deep and the tanks are actually very well balanced. Only silly thing is the endboss, its attacks are near impossible to avoid but as a max-level tank you have so much HP it doesn't matter. That said, the way the game is balanced, the larger tanks couldn't deal with a "you need to dodge this" attack.
The only thing that could be improved in a sequel is a DESIGN YOUR OWN TANK!
