@chaos: I disagree with you. Vehemently. Adding a medium badge brought out so many whining badge whores that it was obnoxious as it is. Bring in a hard badge and that'll just start that all over again.
since once you're out of the very beginning of the game you're looking at needing to come back 1/hr at MOST, I'd say refreshing the page once an hour to not be silly. It costs their servers to keep your game up. Just close off the tab and come back to the game in a couple hours.

as a fan of this game, I regret that badges are bringing in people with no interest in the game who don't get/like this style of game but somehow feel like they are obligated to get the badges anyways.

if you don't like the game, that's cool. Stop wasting your time whining about this using the same lines everyone else does when they complain about this game. Go find a game you do enjoy.
@sparkling: fair enough, but you're staring at a screwdriver and complaining that it's not very effective at hammering your nails into the lumber. This is not meant to be that kind of game in the slightest. Try Johnny Upgrade, Sonny, or any other thousand and one games that ARE what you're looking for.

@tommy: there isn't a good reason to. ever. Having the land doesn't use up any resources and gives you a source of permanent income. I can only come up with two reasons why they have land being sellable:
1) so that if they choose to tweak its functionality at a later date, it'll be easier
2) the game devs are jerks who like watching people scam themselves
what a realistic game. Build up a community by paying for it with the benefits of your mining operation. Once it reaches a critical mass, tear down all the schools, churches, and even town hall to make room for casinos and banks...
