Slow progression, slow gameplay, not idle because of the manual restart required between runs, unsatisfying upgrades, can't speed up enemy spawn rate or skip early waves to keep the game earning decent money...
I'm having trouble thinking of a positive thing for this "idle" upgrade shooter game.
I appreciate this review. I will say that this was originally not going to be an idle game, however, I wanted to add an auto-pilot option. But once I added an autopilot option, I NEVER wanted to turn it off. Therefore it became idle. Are you suggesting that it should automatically restart without waiting for the prestige screen, or should you have the option after the game over (like on the main screen) to prestige manually and otherwise it just starts over? That might be good.
Now I'm super curious. Did you get Grant Kirkhope to write music for this or did you acquire rights to already existing music of his? Is it's the latter, what is it from? It sounds great (obviously).
Another idea would be tiered lootboxes. For X amount of Credit Cards, you get a regular box, for a few more you get rarer ones, and for a bunch more you can get the Legendary Epic Brobox "Limited Time Offer" 86% off Holiday Sale that at least guarantees a rarer item which would be nice for the end game.
Game needs to be beatablein some way or another. Increasing lootbox costs without increasing odds of getting an unowned item makes the game drag out for much longer than it should. It gets its point across in 15 minutes, no reason to keep playing beyond 2 hours unless there's anything new introduced. Gameplay box should guarantee a certain amount of items (1 white, 1 blue and one purple or gold) considering it's supposed to represent a box you'd have bought with a credit card, it should be the "pay-to-win" box. You know what I mean? Since the game relies so heavily on luck, with the current mechanics, it needs a reset button to try to get 100%
Few criticisms on the new update so far:
Penetration 1: Bullets don't damage 2nd target and beyond, and seems to penetrate too many targets (took me 3 hits to kill regular mobs, killed 3 others and the 4th still took 3 hits to kill despite being hit at least 6 times through penetration). A keyboard shortcut to restart would be nice. Upgrades/Weapon upgrade menu, slightly misleading/confusing, could name one Player Upgrades and the other Weapons Upgrades. Removing an upgrade should either refund half of its worth or keep it "stored" to allow to try out different loadouts we've already purchased. Would be nice to have an indication of how many upgrade slots we have (grayed out boxes?). Very nice upgrade, fels like a new game, but as you said, it's going to have some growing pains. Good job!
I'm not asking for RTS-like controls, but just an option to choose which color to target would be better than this randomness. Also, there's definitely a need for a better menu explaining the different types of weapon effectivenesses. I'm genuinely unsure why I went from dominating every round to losing every round...kinda hard to improve without getting stat points for losing. I don't like that you get different ships/fleets/armadas for different combat scenarios, because you don't know what you're going to face off against, you can't set-up your ships weapons accordingly. Knowing which ships you're going to deploy with/against would definitely help not get destroyed, and would allow me to not have to set up every ship to some safe set-up. Lots of work to do before this feels fair and polished.
Also needs an option to bulk buy other than 1 or ALL. I only need 25,000 to upgrade, but can afford 250,000, there's no point in wasting my money on useless units like that.
Food production is way out of balance. Everything goes up by a food requirement factor of 10x, all all you can do is a 2x with wells, and +1base with farms. It doesn't even come close to being fun because of how out of scale it is.
I understand you have your reasons to justify the blanacing of progress, but as a player: I am not invested to grind for this. I hit a wall and grinded for two hours to make more Fortune and it gave me 20 more fortune....or, 2 extra upgrades. This is not a fun grind, considering the upgrade didn't help me progress through the wall, and my next run, I will ac tually be making fewer upgrade tokens than the previous run. It's just...not fun. I know you have your reasons, but listen to the complaints as points to improve on greatly. I know tweaking balance takes a lot of work to get right, but as it is right now, it's not fun at all, which means: there's a lot of work required. This isn't rewarding, which goes against what idle games are, reward.
Played it all the way through.
Why do I have to pay for the AI to be nice to me? Why do they attacked unprovoked when I am trading with them? Why are there only 2 AI's? Honestly expected more to be hidden behin the curtain. good so far, but needs more meat.
Having issues with the game properly tracking prestige points earned, seems to update if I refresh the page/restart the game. Seems like it should be an easy fix. Is the formula .1 per 2 levels? BecauseI'm at 10.6 on level 220.
First, needs to skip boss dialogue, especially after initial intro. Second, Auto-reassign training and treasure hunting. Third, "Main Party" Auto-Assign to missions. Game could be streamlined, once it is, updates can focus on game depth such as upgrading your training facility, having money to buy upgrades instead of treasure hunting with your crap characters. You know, depth and fast and fun and thought out. I personally thought there weren't enough characters, and would have loved to use Groot and Ironman until the end, but the training grind wasn't worth it.
Donkey costs 700, upgrades for him to move are 1400 and he misses money because he moves slow and is in a bad location, don't bother getting his upgrades.
Not even the full game? Guess what? Not even a full rating. Seriously, we go through a lot of half-assed games on Kong... We're not here to be nice to games we can't play.
All righty. Too slow to start. Much too slow. A helpful tutorial explaining the mechanics would be nice, I had to play around with the multi-type stuff for a bit before understanding it completely. There ought to be a way to reset a single Creature of yours so you can play around with different creatures without resetting. A small hint as to how much money a certain Monster will give upon defeat would be nice. Let's see, what else... Item drops! If there was a way to add an item system it would be awesome. Like monsters sometimes drop an item which boosts a stat, and you can equip them on your creatures. I'd say add Etheral auto-respawn, but I am not overly worried about it.
