Mage enemies seem very unbalanced and make it almost impossible to idle. At the moment, my highest stage is 50 (where the buffer enemies show up). I would be fine to idle on stage 42 or 43, but a mage will kill me in one hit. On stage 35, I'm basically invincible to the other enemies and can kill everything with a weak/fast weapon, so it should be extremely easy to idle, but the mages can still kill me if two show up too quickly. At this point, the game is all about the mage bottleneck, and I have to focus entirely on building defenses so I can survive the next stage's mages.

Developer response from Hoistmaster

hmm i have thought about reworking mages, (lower damage more charges), but it should be more difficult to push stages, instead of just idle play. But i get your point :) Hopefully the auto-cast system will help on the mage problem :)

You only really need 8 hero spirits to put you at the speed multiplier cap, which is doing just one reset at level 80. The speed multiplier caps out at 10%, or 10x questing speed. With the way the game works, pets and hero spirits subtract from the initial 100%. If you have -66% from all of the pets and -24% from 8 hero spirits, you'll be at the speed cap. You'll get no more benefit from resetting. If you get 30 hero spirits for whatever reason, you'll start the game at the speed cap and pets will not give you any speed bonus.

I like the game's art style! It has a nice aesthetic. I have a few suggestions: 1. Customizable or WASD controls. 2. Faster controls. I like the way the character gently skips around, but that can make the game feel sluggish. It would be nice if there was a button to make her run a little faster! 3. After finishing the game, the game should let you continue from your last checkpoint so you can find the remaining secrets instead of making you start over again. 4. Some kind of bonus for finding all of the secrets. (Different ending, a bonus level, extra art or cutscene, etc.) 5. Mostly, I'd just like to see the game expanded in a sequel! It has a lot of potential. There could be a story, more items/upgrades, more varied enemies, more in-depth platforming with the crayons, and many other possibilities!

The game has a nice aesthetic, but it's absurdly difficult. After finally managing to land a unicorn, my game crashed when my second unicorn ran into another one.

Developer response from TD2TL

Thanks for the feedback and playing! The game made for LD32 in 48 hours so it is possible to have some bugs. It is hard to control the unicorns but you get use to it. Also money is hard to earn.

This is an example of an extremely well-coded Flash game. Even after playing this game for a few hours, going through massive amounts of enemies in every level, and having shot tons of arrows, the game is still running smoothly and I haven't run into the slow down that's typical in Flash games *coughcoughevery MARTINIRosso game like strike force kittycoughcoughnotsubtlecough*. 5/5

Bug: If you fight on level 20, the fights on level 11-19 become harder. (Level 19 will have 1170 HP.) If you go back down to level 10, 11-19 becomes easier. (Level 19 will have 780 HP.) This can be a problem because if you get stuck on something like level 30, you'll go back down to 29. 29 will be harder than before, so you'll get bumped back down to 28, then 27, etc. You'd have to go back down to level 20 and back up to 29 to fix everything.

I think the hard badge should have required the player to kill 5 officers with the default 63% difficulty. I was a little surprised that I still got the badge even with the assault cruiser and half million dollars on negative 1100% difficulty. Greeeeg! (But it is a really fun game. It's definitely worth playing even beyond the badges!)

Developer response from momoguru

i am glad you are having fun. i think most people would agree, astrox sticks out like a sore thumb on kong. it is not the normal kind of game you find here. i was very surprised this even got badged at all. i will make it so that the badge will NOT submit if your difficulty is negative... instead, it will pop up a message saying you don't get the hard badge because of the settings.

Suggestion: Games like Swarm Simulator and Idling to Rule the Gods have an option to reduce the frame rate. Doing so makes the games look choppier while you're looking at it, but it massively reduces system's resources and doesn't actually affect resource gains. Would it be possible to add something like that to this game? (This game makes my poor old computer heat up quite a bit!)

When you beat a boss and get the Maximum Power bonus, it should add 15 seconds to all of your skills. Right now, it only sets the skills to 15 seconds regardless of how much time they have left. (So if use your skills for the boss and they have 14 seconds left at the end, Maximum Power only gives +1 second to put them all at 15 seconds. It should give +15 seconds and put them at 29 seconds.)

Developer response from Kenzie55

Update 0.6.4 has it so that the Maximum Damage is added to the current time remaining for your Active Abilities.

Capacity seems to be a downgrade. A cell with max everything, diamond honey, and 1 bee gets $160 per fill. A cell with everything except capacity gets $140 per fill, but seems to fill up nearly 1.5x as often. That means I'm actually making about 31% more money per second without upgrading capacity. Having more bees actually makes low-capacity cells even better. With 51 bees, the cells would get $210/$190 with and without capacity. The faster speed makes the low-capacity cells about 35.7% more efficient at that point.

I like it! There needs to be a better way to quickly upgrade groups of units. When I have a group of 8 units and want to upgrade all of their weapons to level 2, I have to click on a unit, upgrade, click on a different unit, upgrade, click on a third unit, upgrade, and so on. There should be some kind of "upgrade all weapons/armors" button or "upgrade lowest level weapon/armor" button available when selecting groups of units.

6. The auto-save makes the game freeze for a few seconds. Either make it more efficient or give us the option to turn it off and put a manual save button in the menu. 7. Knowledge Tomes are useless. They should give the whole party a buff, and the buff should be at least 30%. 8. Examine Tome should do more. (Once examined, enemy HP could show up above health bar. Maybe make a monster encyclopedia that you can fill up by examining enemies.) 9. Let the other heroes use pets. I just really want to give Tanya one of the wolves and Usimaki the mushroom or ghost. Lethal's Tamer passive could then give a buff to all pets instead. (Right now, Tamer isn't very appealing when it's either 25% defense for the whole party or 20% more damage for a weak little pet hit.)

1. Enemies need to scale less or not scale at all. I feel like they're getting stronger faster than I am. The first time I fought in the snow area, I took down the yetis easily, but now I lose against them half the time. 2. Non-quest monsters are too strong in general. (Forget the skeletons! Those rats are on steroids.) 3. Upgrade materials (iron, cotton, oak, pet food, etc.) should be available from markets for gold. 4. Defense and magic defense should be more powerful. I don't feel like enemies are doing less damage after I upgrade armor. 5. The other heroes should automatically be the same level as Lethal. Since dying doesn't affect experience, the only time somebody doesn't have max experience is if you leave them out of the party. (I switched out Allister for Usimaki, but now I don't want to use Allister again because his level is too low.)

Developer response from BenSpyda

Yes, enemy scaling will certainly be something I avoid in future RPG releases. Thanks for the feedback.

There's no game here. The game is all about making your way up the arena or ranking ladder. Eventually, you hit a wall. You've played every day, but you just can't get ahead of the next guy on the list. It's that burning desire to be better than the next guy that causes people to dump tons of money into the game. Outside of the arena, everything else is just a means of getting stronger for the arena with auto-walking, AFK fighting, and "blitzing" to skip all that icky gameplay entirely so you can beat up the next guy in the arena faster. It's a very sad game.

Oooohhh. You have to build a wall and then build a tower on top of it. That's kind of neat, but sort of impractical. We should be able to select the tower and place it without building a wall. If there's no wall, the tower should cost 20c and be built automatically. If there is a wall, then it would function like it already does and the tower would cost 15c. The game could also use: menus, instructions, sell button for towers and walls, no scroll bars/make it all fit in one window, disallow walls blocking paths or refund the 5c that disappears, lives, and game over/restart screen. The game as it is now actually runs really smoothly. There's no glitchiness when building walls, towers, and the towers attack their target just fine, and the game's appearance looks pretty clean! There's just not a lot to it.

I think the final boss is bugged. The plane's nuclear reactor opens up when it has 1 weapon left, and then you win when you destroy the last weapon even if you don't attack the reactor. I feel like we were supposed to destroy all the weapons to open up the reactor and then blow up the reactor to win, but maybe a counter was 1 off somewhere? It's a lot easier this way, though!

@KingDrake The energy cost reduces massively when you use energy in other places! My ascension cost 1,286,760 energy, and then I spent 1600 energy for a larva rush. The ascension cost was reduced to 1,240,930. That's 45,830 less energy needed for only having spent 1,600! If you just keep playing and spending energy normally, the ascension cost will reduce to a reasonable number pretty quickly! :)

@Cryosian There is a prestige/soft reset system! It takes a while to get to, though. You have to build 5 Nexus and save up a certain amount of energy to ascend. The energy cost to ascend decreases based on how much energy you've used from abilities and upgrades, so it's usually best to keep playing until it costs almost no energy to ascend. When you ascend, you get mutagen. The amount of mutagen you get depends on how many larva hatcheries and expansions you bought in your last play through. Each mutagen gives you 0.1 larva production, so if you ascend with 1 billion mutagen (you'll probably have several billion on your first ascension!), you'll start your next game producing 100 million larva per second. You can also use mutagen to buy other special upgrades.
