@Nanokillzx: The people at the penultimate level didn't even see your shots coming; the final guy, Lee, expected your shots (he was looking and shooting right at you) and was able to avoid the first couple; not only that, your arm is shot and almost no use, making sniping harder... doh.
So let me get this straight... the government is putting its faith into one tank to defend the Earth from alien invasion, with no support at all; not even a true anti aircraft gun, no other tanks, not even another guy... and he has to pay for his own upgrades, which he is only using to defend the earth in the first place. Not only that, but the aliens seem only to be concerned with that one tank, not attacking anything in the background; the city in the background seems to be perfectly fine...
@thoulostght: The colonist respawn at the "crazy colonist hovel" located at the top-right of the map; if you click it, your colonist will target it and eventually destroy it, and the enemies won't respawn anymore. Also, if you wish to keep your mining colonists from attacking, go into the job tab and turn off "guard" on the right; that way they'll keep working even if enemies are nearby. Of course, make sure somebody is shooting at those crazy colonists!
If you speed up pretty much everything in the game by about 2x or maybe 1.5x, it will feel like the old N. Just play this and compare it to the old school game; the old N is faster; it's not the controls, the game is moving more slowly, making the controls SEEM sluggish when the actually have the same effect as before, just the whole game being slower.
But, what about the visitor's own conscience, who is technically the PLAYER, who travels back in every timeline with or without the machine, knowing and not knowing each and every outcome that occurs? o_O
