Very good game... but the objective needed to earn the maximum stars is kind of confusing. For example, I finished level 17 in 21 seconds and only got 2 stars.
I like this game; it has the word 'nom' in it. But seriously, nice game, solid controls and graphics and great concept. Definitely needs more levels, though.
Excellent game. Artistic, nice music, simple enough to pick up immediately and challenging enough to keep me playing. One minor issue: I can't figure out how the game is scoring my performance. Is it based on the number of things I destroy? How quickly I pass the stages? How I often I get hit? How often I die? All of the above? A score indicator in-game would be nice for those of us who like old-style arcade games where we want to beat our previous score.
I'm trying really hard to like this game... but I just can't quite get there. You've got an excellent game engine here, but the balancing and design choices made are rather poor. The enemy scaling (and equipment scaling, for that matter) are all out of whack, making the game painfully slow until you get an incredible weapon, and then painfully fast and pointless afterwards. Also, there's absolutely no story whatsoever, not even a generic "you must rescue the princess!" blurb at the beginning... I mean, throw me a bone here, man! I don't even know what my objective is other than to reach the next screen. The first Pandora game was actually much better. There's potential here, but you're just not doing anything to realize it... 2.5/5
Very nice. Felt easy at the beginning but became challenging as it went on. I echo Kain's suggestion that it might be nice to be able to increase the speed at which you repair your sentries (I eventually completely gave up repairing them because it took too much time) but don't enhance repair speed for the main ship, because that would defeat the point of the game. Also, I thought it was really neat that we had to go search for and retrieve parts of the ship, but I thought you could have done more with this mechanic; you could have made variable terrain, and only indicated to us the area where the part had fallen rather than the exact spot. Then we'd have a defense game interspersed with little treasure-hunting scenarios to keep things from feeling repetitive.
Game sort of falls flat, which is unfortunate because it has a lot of potential. The large number of units give an impressive sense of complexity, until you realize that they all do the same thing, and that spamming upgraded versions of the first unit is easier and more effective than using the advanced units. I can't help but dominate every single level using this 'strategy.' Overall, the game is much too easy, and starts to feel like nothing more than a grind after about level 15. I think that tweaking the difficulty (upwards) and making the enemy units that have special abilities appear more frequently could address this to some extent.
I liked it all very much except for one thing: The jump key is unreliable. I understand that this is a game about being lied to, but having the jump key occasionally not work just made the platforming sequences unfairly difficult (it's possible this is due to some weirdness of my keyboard and not the game programming, and if so please disregard).
I don't know why, but one of the first things that occurred to me when I saw this game was 'that guy's full name is Johnathan Upgrade... that's weird.'
Anyway, good game, 4/5. Might have preferred a bit more gameplay variety, maybe multiple stages.
Three things:
1. Great game
2. AMAZING choice of music, fits it PERFECTLY
3. I never knew giraffes had such amazing powers of regeneration... is he actually Comrade Bio-Engineered Mutant Giraffe?
Way cool. It was actually pretty suspenseful! Great choice of sound effects for the ghosts (try listening to it with headphones on, guys!) My only gripe is that there was some pretty substantial video stuttering (my pc should be more than enough to handle this game).
I guess I didn't really get the message of the game... am I supposed to take from this story that ugly people should just suck it up and get over the fact that people won't want to be with them, and not care about it because they have inner strength? I'm more inclined myself to believe that each person has a good match out there somewhere (but Hans' match is clearly not that cheerleader, she's a jerk).
This game is VERY hard, probably unfairly so. Having said this, it's not all bad, but I echo others who say it needs refinement. A few tips for people who are having trouble: 1) Although you can't see your bullets, they do travel across the screen, so you can shoot at things offscreen if you know they're coming (but only to a point). 2) There are points where you'll just have to crash into stuff, buy health. 3) The brakes are there for a reason. To the devs: I've gotta buy most of the stat upgrades just to get through the first of three stages, either I'm doing something wrong, or the game balancing is off.
Today's challenge has an Unstable Mutator with the ability "2: Launch an 8/26 Crusher Class in target empty slot."
... I whimpered a little when I saw it.
Those are my favorite ^^
