I am so sick of the freemium model worming its way into otherwise enjoyable games. I generally knock two stars off of games that follow this model. Catering to the top 0.15% of players is a ridiculous model to follow. Fireproof games has a great blog post about this issue. That said, without playing toooo much thus far, this game looks like it doesn't absolutely force you into spending big bucks. Still can't give it a 5 until further investigation...
Features that you might want to implement if you make a sequel: shift-click a skill to suppress automatic use/click to use skill, ability to set control groups(shift + #)-- often you'll want a monk to move around with a set of melee, a button to select between units that are ready for upgrade.
Otherwise the game is very well made. I particularly like that the auto-targetting AI is actually somewhat intelligent. I can't tell you how many games have frustrated me because archers think that a dude carrying a giant bomb into your back lines should be prioritized less than some muskrat off in the forest.
Trolldrool: They are calling it a Kingdom Rush ripoff because it uses the same number and type of basic towers, similar art styles, gameplay similar to KR(fixed path, no mazing, limited tower "nodes"), a controllable hero, UI elements in the same locations, and other minor things pulled directly from KR like the ability to click on background stuff(pigs for example).
I have been playing TDs since Starcraft 1... over 1000 though I don't have a specific number-- I wish I could catalog all of the TDs I've played :(
This is unquestionably a Kingdom Rush ripoff.
This game started off looking really fun and then just degenerated into a mindless slog of repetitive costume farming and lag. After 2 hours, I've turned to alcohol, lost my family, and defaulted on all my loans. I can't go to prison-- please update this game!
A note to all flash game programmers: convert your graphics to bitmap(you can do this programmatically to account for different screen sizes) before starting. Also make absolutely sure that your objects get destroyed after use. Use an object pool preferably.
On the last level when a whole lot of enemies are on screen, my shots seem to start missing enemies and fly right through them, which makes it a bit harder because then more enemies pile up making the effect even worse!
Great game but it would appear that many of us with old save files aren't able to move in game. No enemies or objects of any sort appear on screen or in the target list, and resetting the pirates locks the game up. I would imagine this is due to incompatible object data between versions.
Things to keep in mind:
You don't need to feed canons your first available limb. Consider dropping off a few and feeding it an arm.
You need legs to walk through sticky goo and to kick effectively.
Canons can eat other canons.
Even with every upgrade and maxed runes that last boss is ridiculous. The difficulty avoiding those overpowered purple blasty things is compounded by having to lift your finger off the the direction you're running in order to roll away from it(when that's the only way to flee). You can't even use the run in circles technique to kill him effectively, because your idiot allies just get killed and killing him solo is near impossible.
For level 46: shoot the pellets at the fridge by clicking the right armpit of the male doll with overalls. Shoot the TV by clicking the outline of the bear, right where his ear on the right meets his head. Shoot the bookshelves by clicking the left armpit of the pigtailed girl doll. Shoot the BBQ by clicking between the two ends of the girl's pigtails.
yes, around build 31 ish, i added drones which forced me to change the save game format just enough to break old saves.
