Funtimes protip: fill up your blood, gather a bunch of enemies and then run to the left of them. Hit "F" to go invulnerable and charge up your giant sonic boom looking attack and let it rip, aiming to the right and a little bit up. You can deactivate your invulnerability as soon as you release the attack. Keep running to the right so your attack stays on screen and it'll kill most of the enemies eventually and juggle their corpses in the air, earning you a substantial combo. Just make sure to not run out of blood by stabbing leftovers.
It would appear that when assigning searchers, in addition to Search skill...Melee skill determines how likely they are to avoid being seen, Shooting skill determines how likely they are to survive if seen.
The arena just paired me against someone who's only Immortal and has only used level 60 cards with 4-5 stars. What? That seems mildly unfair considering my highest level card is like 13 with 3 stars and I dont have any others above 2 stars. =/
I normally avoid games like this, but I figured I'd click it, thinking "maybe, just maybe, this game will deviate from every recent browser 'revenue stream' mmo"
Immediately I was greeted by the standard tutorial chick with abnormally large boobs, and I knew exactly how 80% of the gameplay mechanics would work. This is getting ridiculous.
I mean, I love tower defense games... My WarCraft 3 map folder has something like 1200 tower defense maps in it. I've played(I believe) at least 95% of all of the flash tower defenses ever released.
I had absolutely no problem up to level 9, at which point I've now spent quite a few hours just trying out every combination and strategy possible. I'm not sure how anyone beat this level outside of sheer luck. The best tower defense games don't lock you into finding "the only working combination" out of thousands and thousands of permutations.
I rated 3 stars because it was enjoyable enough as a time waster, despite 100% blops on certain stages seeming to be an inside joke between devs.
And then I got to the squid boss. I don't know if I could think of a more irritating mechanic if I tried. I wouldn't mind so much if it didn't seem to have endless health, but I really, really, really, really don't want to have to grind the amount it's going to take to kill this boss. I don't even know how much that is, since there's no HP gauge for bosses and the fact that it's covered in bloons so I can't really see him take damage. Over and over I have to farm a massive amount, upgrade what little that allows, and try again just to see if my time spent was worthless. Hint: it was.
The biggest problem, for me, isn't that it's a generic "revenue engine" styled freemium game (which absolutely drive me nuts, for the record)... but that little to no effort was put into a lot of the game to make it more than just a revenue engine.
Everyone remembers the Saint Valentine's Day Massacre where Al Capone "power attacked" the North Side Irish gang. He was only able to do that because he invited three friends along to operate a single chainsaw.
...And of course, we all know that when bribing police officers, you need to bring a bullet proof vest. And somehow bribing them brings IN money. And occasionally a motorcycle.
We actually put a fair bit of effort into maintaining our community and changing the game based on player suggestions. We're a small indie company, so we try to keep our players around by listening to them and not over-monetizing.
Just realized that the guy who did some of the voices for this game (at least Beldon and Axl) sounds like the same guy that did a lot of the voices for Kingdom Rush.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again:
The 'freemium' model is trash when misused to function as a revenue stream. It should be a conversion incentive only. With the way things are headed, though, I wouldn't be surprised if one day I wake up and found that my e-toothbrush frequently stops working until I swipe my credit card through the bristles.
Dear god, just because you CAN apply the same exact freemium model and time management paywalls to a game genre doesn't mean you HAVE to. Paywalls should function as a conversion incentive, not a source of revenue. The vast majority of companies who attempt this model fail anyway.
One of these days I'm going to wake up and go to brush my teeth and my digital toothbrush is going to nag me to spend diamonds to upgrade my toothpaste. Just for that day.
I actually kinda like this game so far... but then again I am a sucker for TDs, having played many hundreds if not in the thousands range by now. I was on the 3rd level, but when I went to go look at my stars for previous levels the interface got "locked" on "The Battle Of Bunker Hill" I can no longer go to any other map(forward OR backward!) Since this persists between refreshing the page, I assume something in the save file has to be initializing it to this erroneous state. "Unlock Battle" is set to 2-- I'm assuming that's a 0-based array. "ID Battle" is set to 1, but changing that to 2 didn't seem to help. Without decompiling I don't think I can tell what's doing it =(
On a possibly related note, being able to drag to switch maps is a novel concept, and good for touch devices, but a lot of times ui dragging functions like that can cause a bunch of problems. I'd recommend disabling it until the interface is a bit more stable. Good luck with the update!
Lots and lots of bugs. The no damage fire seems to occur after upgrading fire. When you upgrade electricity *and* ice, the electricity towers get double the range bonus, making them fairly useless because they all have global range and attack the same thing. Replay doesn't reset the level objects. Leaving a stage doesn't destroy all level objects, and can leave a tower menu open between levels. I also got the meteor bug but not the slow tower bug, so I couldn't test the cause.
I don't understand most comments on this game. It needs a lot of polish, but almost every complaint wasn't a problem for me... I can switch guns once I purchase them, manual reload is "R", pause is "space", and there isn't that much of a grind to buy the weapons compared to other games in the genre. That said, this game doesn't bring much to the table that isn't in countless other defense games. And the shotgun functions more like some sort of burst fire gatling gun O.o
Hi WebMage, you might have ever played similar games. GW has many different functions and game systems.
