Developer made the same mistake so many corporate devs have been making for years. Focus on graphics and slick stuff but forgetting to make the game fun. It could had been a good TD game with excellent graphics, if only the basics of most TD games were included.
Although only trying out normal difficulty, it says a bit about the game play when I can type this comment without bothering to look at the game itself. A tad too easy, as long as money isn't wasted on the unnecessary buildings.
@maczero: it's a reference to an older game here: Pandemic 2. Madagascar in it was atrociously hard to infect because often it feels like they close the only route when just 1 person got infected in China or something.
Would be nice if the adjoining arrows are displayed during army deployment as well. Sometimes, what looks like adjoining territories aren't and I find I wasted armies deploying there thinking they are, or missing out on fortifying an area because they looked separated. Especially when the border colour and the player colour are the same.
@elu8: a bit of luck helps of course but the other key thing is to disrupt the AI from gaining bonuses. Sometimes you just need to send out that 3 armies to take a territory you know you will probably lose the next turn. Just to give the AI something more attractive to hit than the piece of land you want to keep.
@dirktheone: I loved playing EpicWar 3 and 4.. but 5 was just meh. One mark of a good game is whether it holds your attention and keep you coming back. I tried EW5, didn't really got me going. Then Warlight came out, I haven't touched EW5 since.
There should be an option to "Pull Back / Retreat" if your target was conquered by an ally in the same turn. For a couple of minutes I was going OMFG when my largest stack became the AI's stack. Fortunately Fizzer's AI was good enough not to do the stupid thing of splitting up and going after all the smaller pieces instead of the target stack.
What exactly does the targeting sight in the menu bar do? Also needs some explanation on how a spawn point decides to suddenly spawn 10x droids and 1 spider -.-
Game should allow us to skip turn instead of forcing us fight two battles every turn when we just want to save up resources for upgrade. While battles gain some extra resources, the time spent even at x4 just isn't worth it the grind.
It's a nice concept and game, although like many had said, hardly have time to enjoy watching my towers do their stuff. Would be nice if there was some tool tip/help about what the stats on the weapons actually do. Otherwise, it's hard to figure out if it was more worthwhile to go for +20 vitality or +20 defense (reduce damage?) or +20 agility (evade attack?)
Also, achievements not working for 45mins.
Controls are a bit finicky and game doesn't always unlock next stage even if you consume the necessary amount of blood. Upgrade screen can get bugged as well. Would had been really fun if it was more polished.
No problems moving diagonally while firing. For those with problems, it might be your keyboard not being able to handle more than 2 simultaneous keypresses.
You can click More Info to see, but I agree that's not as convenient.
