I made it to the one where there are two blue guys chasing you. It's become a little too frustrating. Not a bad idea, but the combo of sight, obstacles, guys chasing you, and a brutal timer has become too much for me. One bug, or maybe a quirk, on one level I got the last torch just as the timer ran out. It said 'You lose' but let me move on.
Hmm. You're trying to copy slither.io, but you're missing two basic ingredients that are necessary for the game. First, the snakes don't get any less maneuverable as they get bigger, taking away the one significant advantage that small snakes have. Next, the snake doesn't "tighten up" around a curve. This means that once one snake has circled another, it just becomes an endurance competition, which isn't really fun for anybody (except, maybe, those who want an endurance competition, but who wants to cater to them?)
I really liked this game. Your timing on introducing upgrades and abilities was just right, I liked how you reused the map, etc. When I went to fight the boss, though, I was still one heart shy. I think maybe it was in the room on the upper left, which I didn't go back to visit because the map didn't show any unexplored areas, but when running around invulnerable, I remembered that I hadn't killed all the baddies because I didn't have diagonal shot yet when I visited it. Perhaps if you kill them all, the last heart appears? If that's it, I have to say that I prefer the other approach, where the tricky thing you have to do opens up a door to get the last capability. That way you can tell from the map where you still haven't finished. Otherwise, really great game. Thanks!
Thanks! None of the hearts require you to kill all of the enemies within a room, but the enemies can make it easy to miss seeing a couple of them. If you have visited the room with the missed heart without picking it up, there should be a large heart icon over that room on the map.
Hmm. While I mostly liked it, far too often I knew what I wanted to do but I had too much trouble making him do it, often needed 7 or 8 tries. Maneuvering the boxes is too clumsy, jumping is a little too sensitive, and it all becomes frustrating rather than fun. If you give the jumps just a couple of pixels more, I could jump while holding a box, then flip it around in time to get it under me. Lab 9 was the one that went from fun and exciting to merely frustrating, because the boxes would line up so I couldn't jump on them, and the crusher's coming, and ... Anyway, I finally beat it, but it was more tries than was fun. Also, R should reset. I did find the reset, but it's more trouble than just hitting R.
Yet another keyboard game that I have to reach for the mouse to 'next' or 'retry'? What I don't understand is why this doesn't annoy you more than me? You must have played the game yourself during testing.
Electricity really isn't directional like that, unless every one of your components has a rectifier built in. The game would be a lot more fun without the arrows, since you'd actually have decisions to make.
Hmmm. Molten iron will go through a basin of iron much faster than lava will go through a basin of ice. This seems wrong to me. Are you taking specific heat as well as latent heat of melting into account?
You really need some instructions. I wandered around (WAAAY too slowly) on the map before finding a guy in the upper left to talk to. I talked to him and was immediately dropped into the falling letters minigame. I needed at least a second or two to figure out what I was trying to do, and by then I was dead. Back to the map and I can't move (he seems stuck) or talk to the guy again. glitchy, too slow, and no instructions nor even time to look at what's on the screen and figure out what I'm trying to accomplish. 2/5
Thanks for the feedback, it is much appreciated! This was our first time working together as a team and we made it for a jam that we joined late, so we were a bit restricted by time and didn't do much planning or testing. I'll increase the speed, fix some glitches and implement some features I have in mind (such as a short tutorial and better boss battles) after I finish some college stuff, so it'll become at least a more playable game!
Really well made. However, once I finished, saw the picture of the player, and thought about all that jumping, two words came to mind. Sports. Bra. I mean, really!
I love this series. Some QA for you: A typo in Mooh's comment when I look at the painting. And another when we find Sighret looking at the open coffin. And one more in the explanation. (He SNUK in.) You really should release these to me before the rest of the public so I can do this free QA for you before anyone else sees it. :-)
Thank you for your nice comment and your QA... I'd really like to test the games for bugs and typos before publishing them, but there's rarely the time :)
OK, I need a hint on level -2. It is definitely NOT making me cheerful. The only thing I could think of that would be "cheerfulness" would be to never stop jumping, so I went all the way through it with the jump button permanently on. No dice. I've read some comments of people who have gotten through it and don't even know what it is they did, but I've made 20-odd tries and haven't had any success. Just a hint? Anybody?
Thanks for the hint. That was clever. I had tried dropping a 1up on the level number which also ought to do something clever, but I hadn't tried that until your hint. So I've gotten to 10 different levels, but a comment above mentions level -1. Maybe a hint for that? (I tried getting my score to roll over -- making it 100+, which is pretty easy to do on level 9 -- but it caps at 99. That might also do something.) Anyway, I love these self-aware games that require 4th wall thinking, and this was a great example. I'd just wish it were longer. (And if there really is a level -1, maybe it is and I just haven't figured it out, yet?) So 5/5 and I'm looking forward to more from you.
Hmm. An interesting game, and I feel dumb that I'm stuck on level 5. So I wanted to go back and see if there was something I could learn in the earlier levels that I had missed, since I had kind of stumbled through them.
I'm pretty sure I solved 3 not in the way you intended, because the only power I had used was music to position the foes where I could jump on them all the way across the spikes. (And I hadn't used music on 2 -- it wasn't needed.) I still don't get what the power of player is good for, maybe that's all it was, to position the foes properly?
But now I'm still stuck on 5. I guess I am supposed to do something to make the exit appear, but I've tried what I can think of. The power of level seems just the same as the power of score, which isn't very interesting. What am I missing?
You're not eating the keystrokes correctly, which is why spacebar is causing some people to scroll. In Chrome, the space bar works ok, but the arrow keys scroll the window (and move the guy at the same time). The problem is that you're letting the keystroke trickle up in the DOM, which is the default behavior. You have to declare it consumed.
I like the game, and it had some good puzzles. I'm at about the 9th or 10th big grinning guy that you have to try to manipulate the cannon into hitting him. Frankly, I'm ready to move on, but there is one more and I don't see how to do it. (SPOILER ALERT: The last one I succeeded at was the one where I have to move the cannon to where the ball lands next to him, and then walk the guy over to where it nudges it that bit more. ) Anyway, that whole line of puzzles was less fun than the earlier ones, and I don't feel like banging my head against yet another. 8 was enough.
thanks for the feedback, Ive had a lot of people give up on that part. Ive redone that part of the game many times because i thought the concept was really interesting if not fun which I think fits into the game since its suppose to be experimental and weird. I dont plan on re doing it again in the foreseeable future, but i do plan on making the game non linear and having a hub to select levels, so people can chose which ones they want to do and can still do other ones if they get stuck. its a real shame because the level after that is one of my favorites. if you want to try that one its here https://karpopper.itch.io/virtual-insanity-part-6. Im glad you liked it otherwise!
Edit: i fixed the keys finally!
Out of memory error loading level 6. I gave it 2 tries. Earning money is too slow. I've finished 5 levels and still don't have enough to buy anything. I realize that tricks earn you money, and I do them when easy, but it isn't enough.
Hi Zag24! You were almost there! Thanks for your bug report, we will try to fix it. Tomorrow we will update the game, adding some more light.
