I had a book once I found at a used book shop, called 'Faerie Chess.' It was full, cover to cover, of all sorts of different variations on Chess. If you remember 'suicide chess,' or 'monster chess,' or the amazing 'siamese chess' (bughouse)...that was only scratching the surface of the 100s of variants in this book. I love that the game makers are taking that idea and running with it :D
It just reminds me of how great that original mining game from like 10 years ago was :(
2/5 takes an existing concept and makes it more boring and dumb.
THE WAY REAL MEN PLAY THIS GAME: 1 basic, unupgraded 'rifle' per level. No other units at all. No commandoes, no machines, no explosive units, etc. If you lose your five hitpoints and die, you start the level over. It IS possible to beat the whole game like this, and it's way more challenging/fun. Consider it hard mode. I think every City Siege can be beaten like this. It's not the best in the series, but still 5/5 because it's one of the best flash game series ever.
Here is how a game of this looks, fully upgraded: Start it, buy all the boosts.. Start cleaning my desk or something. Every few minutes, jam 'x' for a bit. watch game get laggier and laggier (and much less responsive) as it goes on. Right after the fourth boss, game will freeze for about four seconds and when it unfreezes ill be totally dead. Buy the resurrection. Finally, get to giant UFO, start jamming the x key like crazy. It will freeze after UFO starts shooting. It will stay frozen for about 3 seconds, and when it comes to the UFO will be at about 20% health and I'll be dead, having apparently run into it. I've played through 5 runs that were exactly like that. 2/5 sorry.
all around fantastic art. look how cool those missile reloaders are in the garage. unfortunately, not much else to recommend this game. gets more and more laggy as you go on, not at all challenging, repetitive, can't beat it due to horrible 3spf (sec per frame) lag making me insta-die in the last level. But the art all around is really fantastic.
Proof that it can be done: I beat every single level with only a single rifleman, but here is the proof for 28, 29, and 30: That was hard, 100s of lives, great fun. City Siege is probably my favorite flash series ever. Literally. It's just amazing. This is a solid level pack. Quit complaining, it's 30 new levels and some cool new mechanics for free ;)
The proper way to play this game: one rifleman, level one, gold medal on all levels. Lose 5 health or 1 civ killed and you're out. I'm up to level 28 and I've never used a single other unit. Hardcore mode. It's a great challenge.
