Genetic Algorithms?!?! Mein Gott! You have a seriously bright future!
My complements on sharing this, as a game it is not necessarily compelling, and it has a lot of basic flaws (nodes falling below the boundary, stretching of "bones" in instances) , but considering the sheer number of lines of code it takes to create the A.I. process, I can easily overlook that as cumulative error. . . Anyway, this is a fantastic display of ability. Congratulations :)

Come on people! You should have the generations go for more than just two or three! Unless you have a slow computer. Seriously, give the creatures a chance to evolve.

having a third type of connector which doesn't rotate around a node. would be a huge help for designing better and more interesting machines - otherwise you have to build complex interlinked bone structures if you want to keep part of the machine rigid.

Ummm, on the high scores, it said i was 1st on the all time leaderboard, i had 13,567 for my score, i came back the next day, and someone else was 1st and they only had 5,658 for their score. something is wrong with that.

there is one fault with this game:you can get on to the high score board by retesting others creations but otherwise best game ever!

Very interesting program here - been playing it on and off all day now. But I really wish there was some additional documentation... clearly not only muscles can be moved, but it's not clear to me exactly what the creature can do? Seems to rotate the nodes.. even elongate the bones at times. I had two elongated-triangle arms on each side of a square body, entire thing made of bones, and the thing planted the node at the point of a triangle on the ground and *pushed* itself to the right, extending the two bones to twice their length in doing so. So.. kind of wish I knew what it was capable of moving :)

It think you should be able to overlay bone with muscles, because that what happended in real life, also i think there should be a new type of node, joints, like ball join and hindge joins.
who like the idea?

We need a 3D version of this, based off of grid cubes, we could really see 3D genetic algorithmic creatures being made with it!

You need to add rigid bones,or at least bones that you can set to have a fixed rotation. And also skin(As in flesh, scales, leather, etc)

@John: The real problem is that there aren't any proper joints, so legs just don't work very well. Also the program seems to have problems learning how to use a limb properly.

very fun and very educational i have spent time on how to make the best creature and to get it running and it has been the best 1 hour of my life on the computer

I made something that resembled a man, but it fell over, had a clumsy seizure, crumpled into a ball of bones and muscle, and started moving along normally. That's evolution for ya.
Under rating threshold (hideshow)
Nine out of ten creations will collapse and have a seizure while moving backwards. The tenth will go so fast that it falls over. Then it will have a seizure.

I never thought how incredibly sad it'd be to make a human-ish thing and watch it shake and drop to it's knee quivering trying to move in vain

You should made no penalty points and penalty points (if penalty points touch the ground then creature not passing gens to other generation) this way you could evolve walking stick or other walking creatures.

Wow. Even if I hadn't before, I totally would believe in an omniscient creator after playing this game. Apparently, if I had created the world, it would have really, really, really sucked.

Hey so I'm working on a new version of this game. For more info about that, and a link to a playable WIP version, go here: https://www.facebook.com/brycesummer/posts/1201287509933238
If you have any suggestions, bug reports, feature requests, or cheese -- let me know via shout on my Kongregate profile, or reply to the facebook post, or email me at brycesummer (AT) gmail (DOT) com... Or telepathically send them to me. That last one might not work though.

It's really trial and error and on top of that, it is random every time you start a new 'generate animation' evolution line.
The main issue is that there aren't proper joints and the sim doesn't know how to use limbs properly. There are alot of things that aren't perfect about it, but it definetly deserves a sequel with upgraded capabilities.
