即時戰略（RTS）遊戲要你掌控戰場每一分每一秒。唔係輪流，而係雙方一齊行動。你要搵資源、起建築，仲要一路帶兵行到地圖各處，個計時器係唔會停架。呢種節奏快嘅玩法，將深思熟慮嘅策略即時變成刺激爽快嘅行動。
1990年代初由《Dune II》、《Warcraft》、《Command & Conquer》打響頭炮，之後九十年代尾更有《StarCraft》同《Age of Empires II》將網絡對戰興起埋一齊，令RTS變成電競嘅經典。而家雖然MOBA同射擊game夠晒紅，但新嘅獨立遊戲、重製板同活躍社群都仲令經典RTS繼續有火。
核心玩法一直都係咁：你開採礦石、木材或者黃金，規劃基地等工人冇停手，確保軍隊準時出動。迷霧機制遮住敵人行蹤，所以斥候變咗你隻眼。科技樹解鎖勁兵種同新技能，無論深層籌謀定即時決斷都有回報。
RTS玩家最鍾意係動腦又要手快。有啲追求完美出兵順序同高分天梯，有啲就鐘意自訂地圖或者同朋友玩合作劇情。無論係《Company of Heroes》細隊戰術，定係《Sins of a Solar Empire》橫跨星球大戰，子類型反映RTS幾咁多變。
