It's like I'm really playing Shadow of the Colossus (p.s. that's seriously a good thing).
Nice to see something so different and well made as this. 5/5.
Why does the ENGLISH language use an AMERICAN flag? Gah, one of my worst pet peeves. Anyway, 3 play buttons to start is irritating, but I love reading the "Did you know?"s, but the game's quite simple and has little difficulty, so 3/5. Nice audio, too.
Wait, so you're able to sell your starter gun, then unable to buy any gun but the starter, regardless of money, which is twice the price you sell it for? But that makes it so easy to break the game. In addition, if you get the accuracy bonus in level 1 you'll have 1500 gold, the starter gun sells for 500 and the next gun buys for 2000... see where I'm going with this?
Wish we could take absolute control of a single unit again, like in the first one. That alone is the reason I adore the first. This one's also great, but I just wish I could take direct control of one unit. It was so much fun.
It's not bad. Good fun, but a bit simple. A bit too simple to go on steam, I'd say, but that's just my personal opinion. Even so, good luck to you, Nitrome.
I must add I sidescroll with my mouse, which puts the move counter so high. Using left or right keys, the move counter is still ten times too high if you hold it.
Move counter only counts the amount of presses of left and right you make, not the amount of moves- moving 5 times while holding either direction puts your move counter at about 200.
This game is extremely good; it's great fun, it really is. However, I'd like to make a few points: Duels are great, but they should have a 15s timer or something- too many times have I almost slain the Undead King and been summoned into a duel. I think it's too easy to get the highest-ranked ability (bottom of the tree), and a player can quite easily just spend 5 or so points getting the best ability, then a further 5 or 10 to get the other one or two which makes you ludicrously overpowered. I'd like to see the Lich and possibly Barbarian fighting on the evil side, so you can been on the evil side if you choose those characters, and, obviously, more maps. If there were to be an expansion, more maps is a must. There needs to be a Summoner class that can do the Necromancer's skeleton summon and the Ice mage's water-fiend summon, amongst others- I'd love to see some basic stone golems or something similar. 5/5 regardless.
The start music is made by someone named Ockeroid and is called "Counting down the hours"- you can hear it here: http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/359609
My main argument is about the green levels X-03 and X-15; later one they're just ridiculous. I can be two-hit by the enemy and I've gotta kill 5 of them using only 3 ice staves? Yeah, nah. The luck element is way too high, and these levels are extremely annoying. If I can get a dragon, easy. When I get nothing but turtles and the pirate monkeys, that's just stupid.
Bad points begin now: I don't find having the enemy capable of instakilling any fun; I really don't like the poison ability. There's nowhere near as much cavalry as I'd like and there's WAAAY too much melee-infantry. Lancers have EXACTLY the same stats as Scouts, but with better abilities that make them cost much more; I find Lancers totally redundant. Even when fully upgraded I think the Priests' healing ability too underpowered and only makes negligible difference. I think healing and damage increase, etc, should be able to have two or three stacked per line maximum, not one. All form of range units are underpowered because, unless you send them all together and THEN an enemy spawns, only the front unit actually attacks, or unless the range unit is at the front. Limiting War taxes to 1 upgrade for legendary mode makes the game annoying, not difficult. The library's third space remains empty at the end of the game. The game is very fun, so I'll give it a 5/5.
I've completed the game and have begun legendary mode. Firstly, thankyou very much for adding a new game +, because they're always awesome. The game itself is great fun, an excellent time waster, and thank god units don't have cooldowns- money is a much better system because it allows for huge charges. Units look very different from each other and have good designs, so that's cool. The academy is done well, and having fast-forward as an option is good. Music and sound are nice. I also like the optional towns that unlock new units, but does anybody skip those? Love the abilities you've applied to them all, such as fear and unyielding. That's all the good points.
Their should be two difficulties: hard mode, where it is like it is now. Normal mode where the enemy follows a set procedure per level that kills all your men in three turns. That'd make it far less annoying when he one-shots me. On top of that, THE ENEMY NEEDS TO START SHOOTING ONLY WHEN HIS CASTLE IS STABLE. Too many times have I killed all but one of his men who is literally leaning on the point of toppling, all my men are killed, then their man begins falling to his doom and I lose.
They could be, I have never played Skyrim so have no idea. Took them from some portrait pack on the net.
