I'd like to agree with some people before me: Level up should give an in game reward, and stress that either way it should NOT give a straight up bonus to your score.

This has nothing to do with tertis! Are all the mechanics different (blocks don't fall, but are dragged. You don't build rows, but fill a shape. You can move a block after you've moved a different block. And the pieces aren't made of 4 parts necessarily- some have 3, others 5, 2 or even just the one)
