Very, very easy. I mean, what is this, Charge of the Light Brigade in space? The enemies need guns with bullets that extend out more than an inch. And bullets that lock in on the player and try to nail him.
And the game could do with a hell of a lot more plot development than "evil aliens". I mean, c'mon dude. I know you've got more creativity in you than that. What evil aliens? Why are they invading? Why is there a big biological monstrosity at the end when most of their forces are mechanical? Perhaps you could separate each "area" after a boss with a short "mission" text, allowing you to make me actually care about this random war I'm fighting.
And the "now the game really begins" infinite loop? That's horrible. HORRIBLE.
I love your LRU games dude...but you're slipping. This game was like the first level of a good shooter...except incredibly long. 3/5
SPOILER ALERT: The "ending?" where you kill everyone? That was mildly retarded. I mean, I'd already completed my research. I had no reason to remain in the lab.
The only real complaint I have is the limited number of survivors. I mean, yeah, it kind of makes sense when a small town of like, a hundred people draft a constitution. But thirty eight? That's about the same number of people in one of my classes. We could not start a new nation. No. Just...no. Especially when I've got things like the 50-500 rule in my head, which means you need 50 people for short term survival, and 500 people if you're trying to avoid horrifying inbreeding.
Yeah, the survivors are being too optimistic when they draft the constitution, but for them it's a symbol that they've finally got their crap together. It would take more than 50 people to call it a nation, but that's big enough for a city-state or village with its own laws. So long as they interbreed with people from other city-states as you mentioned. But Rebuild 2 doesn't address the re-population issue since it's only a year or two in, and all the survivors are very careful not to bring any babies into the world at this point.
Also, ARGHHH. I only got an A rating. I'd prefer next time to see some kind of scale, where it shows what the highest rating is. Because I thought I'd hit the top but it turns out I'm three below it.
The "unique characters" made it kinda dumb. It became useless to spend any money or level-ups on anybody else. A level three knight, whom I'd been training most of the game with boxing, was still worth far less than a level one Kraig.
@Frumpledorf: So there's no such thing as a bad game or book? Because I'll probably never make/write one? That's totally sensible, sir. Brilliant, in fact. In any case I'm not "whining about [the game]" or even "hoping they'll change it." I'm logging a series of genuine complaints. What they do with that knowledge, or if they even care to look at it, is up to them. And as anyone who HAS ever made anything knows, constructive criticism is more useful than blindly playing a game and rating it up or down.
The game has dozens of problems, but there are three big ones. First, the infernal music; one song for a game that takes longer than an hour? HELL NO. The music, good at first, eventually made me want to die. Second, it is too goddamn easy. I had to literally run into bullets in order to die on the last mission, and it took a while because my autoturrets kept killing enemies and healing my ship. I never died before then. Third, everything is too long. It feels more like an endless grind than a real game. This is an action game-I want some action. I want to actually die occasionally. All I played for was to see the end, which of course ended up being anticlimactic and boring.
Oh, and where's the plot? Did you forget about that? What is this mysterious artifact? Could it explain why your ship is so superior? How is Earth gonna deal with, what was it, SIX hostile alien incursions? Etc.
