I know it's only a video game, but a 35mm rifle? A 50mm sniper rifle? Please do some research on real firearms. The Bofors gun was used during WWII to shoot down aircraft. It's still in use today even in the US military on the AC-130 gunship. Oh yeah, it's 40mm....

Not bad for an old school mock up, but I got caught in a loop where the boss would hit me, I'd get up, but before any of my inputs took place he would hit me again. I went from full health to none with no chance to avoid it.
finally beat the hard mining mode. Just under 25 minutes. Aside from an idle worker (recycle useless miners) button, The only thing that might add to this would be my own ships. Interceptors and maybe a few destroyers and corvettes...
TO ALL THE PEOPLE WHO ARE LAGGING: I've found that it is usually because of an advertisement at the side or top of the page. The best fix I've found for this is to right click any flash ads and uncheck both "play" and "loop". The biggest culprit that I have seen is the "kijuju" ad.
@Celebrim - hehe, switch to firefox? I only use IE to support clients that call me with IE issues. Anyways, pulsars/pulsers excel at taking out missiles. I put them between regular lasers for just that reason.
@Celebrim - Not sure then. I closed my browser as a test while ready to fight the last mining mission. I'm using Firefox 2 and when I reopened the browser, I picked up right where I left off.
