I wanted to give it a higher rating - really. I played 7 levels and couldn't find anything new. The best I can say is JAGS (Just Another Gem Swap).
The only saving grace that made me give it a 3 was the background picture and the number of "specials" that pop up. What killed it for me was the lack of a reshuffle when no more moves are available and the music. I found both to be annoying.
A middle of the pack game. It's okay if you're trying to kill time at an airport or hanging around after work, but nothing special.
Fun little time-waster.
One of the things that drives me nuts about certain games is the endless grind. Repeat the same levels 9 or 10 times, try the boss. Fail, repeat 5 or 6 more times. This game strikes a good balance. Definitely needs badges. Maybe a "Illegitimi non carborundum" badge for making it past level 50.
my $0.02. Everything was awesome until the end. Skill trees are excellent, game play smooth, side quests, mini-games, etc, are great. The final boss - too much luck involved. I quit after getting smeared 10 or 12 times. I tried different combos of skills and still couldn't get past him. Which says something about the game overall, if I'm willing to go back to an earlier save point and switch up skillsets.
4/5 - wish I could rate it a bit higher, but the endgame killed it for me.
Well done, sir. I can't really call it a game - it's more like an interactive story. Nonetheless, very well executed. Reminds me of the early days of console gaming, when story drove the adventure realm. 5/5
Used the walkthrough twice - once to figure out what the string was for (missed that clue), and again to find the ring fragments (didn't feel like going on a scavenger hunt). One of the best little time-wasters I've seen this year. %/5
Fun little time-waster. 4/5. I LOL'd at some of the artifact descriptions. I liked the added challenge of planning shots in advance - sort of like billiards. I will second p0x0rz comment about the immediate "end day." Good game, looking forward to the sequel...
Well done. Again, very Poe-esque. I grew up with the classics and this is bringing back some wonderful memories (no pun intended). Keep up the good work!
I really wish I could rate this 4/5. The art and ease of use rate really high. But so many easily correctable errors drag it down.
The lock picking challenge was great, as were the fights. The dialogue, however, was so full of misspellings and improper grammar that it took away from the feel and playability. 3 of 5 is the best I can do.
That being said, you have something with great potential.A little fine tuning and you could easily have something awesome. I say try it again. You almost got it.
Brilliant art and good gameplay. Dialogue was above average for an indie game. I'm not sure "game" is quite the right term - more like a GUI story. Still, I liked it enough to give it 5/5 and hope there will be a sequel. The visual effects were stunning and the concept was great.
Positively brilliant. I can't praise it enough (except for the bit with the crows - I think I peed a little, as i had the sound turned up). The music really gives it the right touch. As an Edgar Allan Poe, Alfred Hitchcock, H.P. Lovecraft, et al, fan, you captured it perfectly.
"The boundaries which divide Life from Death are at best shadowy and vague. Who shall say where the one ends, and where the other begins?"
Well done. 5/5/5/5/5/5
My $0.02. A great idea, brought down by repetitive scenarios. 4/5 for great concept, good art, great sound, but limited dialogue and repetitive action. Had this been done like the Zork series (yes, I am that old) with typed commands and expanded vocabulary, it would be brilliant. Well done, nonetheless.
Great storyline, nice art, very intuitive interface. The only flaw was the dialogue, but it didn't get in the way of the gameplay. I especially liked the comic book cutscenes. They gave the sense of time passing, but without the grind of other adventure games. 5/5
