This is a very nice port of the NES game Fire and Ice. Why do I say port, instead of homage? Because I went back and checked, and they essentially ripped the levels from that game, and used different artwork. You get an E for Effort, but a 2/5 for a blatant rip-off.
Yes, I was inspired by this game (Fire and ice) and some moments have been transferred with improvements. It is not necessary to judge game being based only on the first levels.
I'm not fond of the way that the tiles are randomized. Out of five games, I had to restart four times because the tiles were arranged in such a way that would let me finish the level without using the hold tile function. Why even bother with the stars if your game makes it so that it's frequently impossible to three-star a level?
I know I'm not stupid, but there is no way to get either of the two keys I can see. I'm eight screens in, and I'm not going to go any further. Clearly, the designer of this game isn't doing something right, if so many people are getting hung up. Gaming 101, z3lf: Always have a clear, achievable goal for the player.
It would be awesome if, in the Battle screen and you're down to one enemy, it will auto-select them for your next attack. Just a click saver, but it'd be a nice little subtle thing to add.
I HATE when Point-and-Click games don't let you combine items until you ABSOLUTELY need them. It's obvious I'm going to need to make a fishing pole; I have a hook, a worm, a string, and a pole. LET ME MAKE THE FRIGGIN POLE!
Going through the comments and seeing all the negative votes against people who complained about the text of the game actually made tears come to my eyes. It's seeing things like that that make me hopeful for the world. 5/5 for the game, and 5/5 for every one of you that rated this game the same way I did.
Seems to me, the way the game is set up forces players to lose. I tried more than a dozen combinations of towers on the second level, and when I had finally found one that worked for me, by the final wave, I still only had two lives left. That, combined with the fact that there is no permanent upgrade list, and I'll say this game is more unfair that challenging. 2/5
Maybe I'm splitting hairs, but if you have to move the main body of your copter over a money token to pick it up, then why can the enemies hit your gun to cause damage? I died more often then not because errant fireballs were hitting the barrel of my gun when I was dodging them. 2/5 for poor collision.
