...mind you, starting IN Madagascar has its own 'arse end of nowhere' problems - it was 42 days in before I saw even ONE ship leave that island and infect another region. :(
*home stretch now!* ...
Now, with all this said, I actually liked the game quite well; it was wittily done. (and nice maze, Tas! :) ) I've seen this sort of 'meta game' before and liked those, too.
As for whether this is a humorous satire of 'the state of the community' (see the tags for the game), or a SERIOUS CRITIQUE of it, I don't preclude to know Tasselfoot's mind and won't speak on the developer's behalf; I *think* it's a jesting jibe intended to make people smirk rather than a vehement attack meant to 'shake things up', but again - I'm not 'Mr. Burrhoff' and I'm not going to put words in his mouth(characters in his text box?).
*guess what? ;) * ...
If I'm understanding you, are you suggesting that people are WRONG for expressing their opinions? Should GameStop™ remove the 'make a comment' section, since that would prevent the...shall we say 'critically lazy and unimaginative' from putting up vague or simplistic criticism in their comments? Isn't it just as much a person's right to express themselves as they wish, be it with clarity or with obtuseness?
Or shall we censor only *some* comments? Only the negative ones, or just the 'illiterate' posts...or maybe just the comments by users whose nicknames end in a digit? ;)
Of course, this doesn't go all the way to defend truly OFFENSIVE, ABUSIVE or BLATANTLY INSULTING comments; as much as a writer/musician/designer/etc. willingly invites criticism by offering one's art up for public opinion and commentary, I think we can agree that NO ONE should be required to tolerate defamatory statements (or worse, threats).
...bear with me, just one more...
*again to MMN1* ...
-People are different; some people like action, others don't; some like violence, others squick at it; some people like music, others can't stand 'noise' while they play; some love a deep, engrossing story, others roll their eyes and hunt for the 'skip' button. What appeals to one gamer will turn another off.
...so given that ANY game will have different appeal to different people, are you saying it's WRONG to *express* one's opinion of a game if it did NOT appeal to one? Is it 'ridiculous' to dislike a game - a work of subjective art (regardless of what Mr. Roger "I wrote the screenplay for Beyond The Valley Of The Dolls" Ebert thinks) - for what are ultimately individual and personal reasons?
(for example, I have no time for 'tower defense' games and NEVER have - that's MY personal preference, and any game that doesn't immediately bill itself as such, yet has TD-elements in it *will* be rated lower because of my opinion)
...continued again...
@MysteryManNum1 Well, while I agree with you on many points, the act of putting one's creation into a public forum for examination, dissemination and commentary by its very nature OPENS ONESELF UP TO CRITICISM, both positive and negative, constructive & destructive. If one doesn't like being given unflattering opinions about one's work (warranted or not), one might consider not putting one's work out into the public to PROVOKE same said detraction.
And for the record - people are FULLY ENTITLED TO DISLIKE SOMETHING and EXPRESS THEIR OPINION about it.
-Boys that *bitch* about 'girl's games' (cwidt) are permitted to do so...just as GIRLS have complained about a glut of 'BOY'S GAMES' for YEARS AND YEARS. If you're saying boys' complaints are invalid, would it be fair to similarly invalidate girls' complaints?
...continued...
It was in my faves not because it was a solitaire game, but because it had a rather nice music player; since that doesn't seem to work anymore, it's going bye-bye. :(
Damn you, Rait - I thought I was free of this siren song...there goes my day off, all spent at this deceptively simple yet gloriously addicting game.
And I'm not even any good a scrolling jumpers anymore; my reflexes have gotten sucky with age, and I doubt I ever manage more than maybe 1500m...yet *I*CAN'T*STOP*PLAYING* ^_^
Well, kinda sad to find my old savegame(s) are incompatible, but the revisions and enhancements are really nice! Congrats on keeping a wonderful game-series alive Pseudolonewolf!
Wow, it's like Pelle and raitendo got together and cast a curse on me...a delicious, chocolaty curse that I know is bad for me but I just CAN'T PUT DOWN. It's both fun and frustrating, delightful and demonic, terrific and terrifying. And I...just...can't...stop. (Thank you for perfectly recreating those glory days of video arcades full of simple yet FUN games like this)
"It's got a good beat and I can dance to it!" XD It's sorta annoying to almost get the 'in a row' ones and JUST miss out on that last case you need for an ingame achievement, but still, despite that and some repetitiveness, 4/5.
Oh, and giving this 'game' an achievement is the ACME OF IRONY: It's own author description: "This is a game that you may not consider to be a game. It won’t tell you if you’ve won or lost." yet "Lasting Memories: Protect the humans" *sigh*
And for what its worth; I see the it's message, I just don't particularly agree with its narrow, blinkered perspective of 'humanity'. On a purely mechanical level, the art design was great and only the animation slow-down brings it down to a 4/5. But as 'art' which includes the message conveyed and the perspective of the audience, this audience member gives it a 2.
Not so much a game as an 'interactive sermon'. Takes one aspect of human civilisation and society and harps on it without end. Further, the code gets quite bogged and unresponsive when multiple threats appear. And THIS gets an achievement while far more deserving games do not.
Nope. Sorry; it must be my aging reflexes rendering this timing game into one of random luck; I seem to find NO skill involved - releasing the trebuchet at the same time and the stones travelling on EXACTLY THE SAME PATH as shown in walkthrough videos *STILL* seems to result in radically different results.
I cannot consider this entertaining but invoking insanity: "Doing the exact same thing over and over but expecting a different result."
Oh, and FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS HOLY AND PROFANE, *ENOUGH*WITH*THE ___STUPID____ "thunk-thunk-thunk-thunk" SOUND EFFECTS; it COMPLETELY destroys any sense of immersion I attempt with this game to hear wall segments thud repeatedly as they settle!!!!!
So....what exactly is the big deal? The lack of grammar actually weakens my interest in the game for me. The game mechanics are okay, if the handling is a little 'slippery'. The 'story' isn't terribly engaging. Oh, and "...is not an art game, its an allegorical game about..." shows the dev(s) either do not understand the terms they're using, or are hypocrites with pretencions of superiority. Meh. Yet another platformer that 'breaks the rules'.
