Terrible controls- the WASD shouldn't operate as absolutes for directions, but be based on the diver's orientation. Other games have done this much better... have a look at them; and try starting with the diver not being so useless.
Oh, and I just realised that repairing is a waste of money... buy a repairman and upgrade your wall and assault rifle power/clip and reload speed as early priorities. To repeat; it could be a 4 star game, but needs a bit more work. Seems a waste of what's been done to release it like this.
Which browser is that with, @WebMage? Have had another go, again with Firefox. Still no manual reload or weapon-switching... even if fixed the point about it being unfinished still seems to apply. As per @nadiakasper24's comment the crystal/scientist system doesn't seem to make any sense... you get way more crystals from the scientists than you could ever need or use and no penalty for gunning them down!
Diamonds are given by the guys in white coats reaching the wall. The game seems unfinished;what's the story, and why can't weapons be switched? Plus, the $ cost on weapons and uprades suggests a real grind.
Chapter Two's longer and just as good; less Poe, but still very Gothic. And with dialogue. You 'donate' (via PayPal) to play it now, rather than buy at a fixed price. The details are on TheLastDoor.com, via the link on the first screen.
I got through the mansion with the stun skills and rushing Boris, but the balance is even worse at the Monastry. I don't think I could have made much improvement with the cash and skill points I've used. As @abbysoft says, it needs tweaking in all directions, more skill points with better effects, more money and/or better/cheaper kit and more balance between the characters and enemies in damage/hit chances and action points. IMO the game's great apart from that, and the balance issue looks eminently fixable.
Very good. I enjoyed the dialogue, the Thugs' way of talking reminds me of 'A Clockwork Orange' - and it all clicks through OK or can be skipped. As per @shellayogi, I'd suggest a multi-buy option for items.
Very good, but needs more attention to the plot and puzzles. Didn't feel like an investigation or mystery being solved (for example, how did the girl vanish from the toilet in the first place?) Seems cut down from a longer game, but could have been better with what's there.
Very Edgar Allan Poe/gothic in story. Very true to 16-bit 'point and click' adventures... right down to "go as far as you can upstairs to find the key to open the furthest door downstairs then go all the way back upstairs with your dreaded single-use crowbar of adventuring!" The few phrases of music make it atmospherically melancholy, so the slow, linear game play fits... but you'd have to get in the mood to enjoy it. They could offer free Prozac, rather than a badge, on completion. ;)
