Menu should have keyboard shortcuts, N for Next Level and R for Try Again. I see that you have added R for retry during the level, but why not also at the menu?
A very very interesting and immersive visual novel. I have TONS of praise, criticism, observations, suggestions, questions and theories, but unfortunately I think I'll have to use a more appropriate forum because this comment section doesn't allow for large texts. Here, I'm only going to comment on the main factors that affect my rating. I usually don't rate games before I've finished them, but I'm going to make an exception in this cases since apparently it's going to take very long for the complete game to come out. I see a major flaw in that the game's mechanics are not aligned with its purpose: I am rewarded with more content (insight into the characters and the overarching mystery) if I choose to ask for a hint than if I solve a puzzle by myself, which inverts the usual motivation for a puzzle game. That said, I find the story so gripping that I'm still going to (tentatively) give it 5 stars. I'm positively hooked, and I can't wait for the next chapter.
Thank you for the kind words and feedback! That issue with the hint system definitely crossed my mind as I was making the game, but things were pretty far along at that point. As a heads-up, you're never punished for using hints, so if you think you know the answer, feel free to ask the other Contestants as often as you'd like to see what they have to say. Also, nothing *critical* is ever hidden in the hints, if you were wondering.
I hope you enjoy new chapters as they're released!
I should be able to put a single item back to the inventory, rather than having to restart all of them. Also, "tap" should be "click". Other than that, solid puzzle. A level editor would be nice.
How was I supposed to know that the second arcade game puzzle was a sudoku? I had to watch the walkthrough to realise what he was doing. (Oh and btw I had to go to youtube for the walkthrough - the one linked from the game is unwatchable.)
I haven't tried multiplayer as it still appears to be on beta version, but awesome game (other than the achievement bugs). My current rating is 4 stars, which will go up to 5 once the bugs are fixed. Also I think that the hidden achievements shouldn't be hidden. I mean, there are no secrets or easter eggs in the game, so I don't see a reason why "bring your opponent down to -30" should be visible but "win by less than 5" should be hidden; it's basically the same type of achievement in both cases.
Multi-player is perfectly playable and i should probably remove the Beta text, its just hat i have not confirmed that my latest fixes works, it was (that is if i have manage to fix it) an odd bug happening once every 30 games or so and only for some player.
Oh and now I've lost the hard difficulty badge, as it reverted to 92%, so I would have to start yet another campaign >.> I don't think I'm going to do that...
Further to my previous comment: I now have 100% on all 4 difficulties after starting over and beating the hard difficulty again, but the achievement for all difficulties is still at a low percentage, as it only counts my current campaign. This is a separate bug (in addition to percentages not registering properly). If someone does 4 different campaigns and beats a different difficulty in each then they will get the first 4 badges but the fifth one will be at 25%. It shouldn't work that way; the last badge should reflect the largest percentage reached for each difficulty across campaigns.
It should be fixed now, sorry it took so long, been a busy week. if you have multiple campaign saves load the one that you completed everything with and go to achievement scene, all your missing achievements should be there.
The completion percentages on the achievements page sometimes don't match the actual completion percentages. I got 100% on all difficulties in one campaign but the hard difficulty wouldn't register. I've started a new campaign, now my new "best" in hard difficulty is my current percentage, that doesn't look right either. On another note, the description of Curse could be clearer (list specifically what "everything" is, to make clear that it's really "everything" - some redundancy helps sometimes). Also, I went to have a look at multiplayer and when I navigated back to single player the buttons wouldn't work any more so I had to refresh the page. Just these few things to fix, then the game will be badge-worthy imho.
"I need to lift it up" (20kg) - *puts 21kg in the counterweight* - "I think I need to recalculate". Errr... why? If the counterweight is heavier, shouldn't it work?
R for restart, please. Also, I'm not sure what the requirements are for 1,2 and 3 stars on each level; as far as I can see, the 3 stars at the bottom tell me nothing until the end of the level.
Normally the 3 stars at bottom should fill up from zero to 3 stars when your are playing.
For the restart : When playing a level go to the option menu (top right of the level) and click the "Restart Level" option at the bottom of the menu.
Thank you NetMonster for feedback. Now we added N for next level and added R key to work also in menu
