@epic_6822 and @topcatchf This is the first version of Rogue III. It is now on Steam too, but Justin really should have called that one Rogue IV because he's changed a ton of stuff since this version (it's even better now!).
I'm pretty sure all the maps are rebuilt for that one too, so you will have plenty of new levels to explore @topcatchf
So you really gonna do me like that Kong? The Best of 2008 badge wasn't good enough for you so you had to pick the one I don't have? And now can't get?
Do not upgrade Health until you get the 'Master of Suspense' medal - put all upgrades into Jump and Regen until then. It's easier to do 'Trouble with Truffles' at this point as well. The rest of the medals just come with play. Get all the medals to BOTD - distance doesn't matter once you get to 500m. Hope this helps for those who are here for the badge.
I don't use autoexplore. I like the tension of peeking around the corners too much!
I don't use the Telepathy Helm or Dungeon Sense for the same reason.
I love how brutal this game can be to play. It's not just about one monster overpowering you. It is such a dangerous environment so you constantly have to be aware of everything around you.
Pits, exploding pots, loose bones underfoot, poison gas, even standing in a pool of water will bring your demise if you are unwise.
Yet all of those can be used to your benefit as well if you make the right moves. Water can kill you in the face of a mace or a lightning bolt, but it is your friend when you back's against the wall in the path of a fireball.
