Ok, so obviously feedback on a 9 year old game is useless, but for anyone else trying to do something like this: of all the staple features of bullet hells, small hitboxes is NOT one you can do away with.

The game became significantly easier once I just let my pet die. In hindsight, it should've been obvious: I spent most of my time rushing to save it or using items on it, it never actually helped in any way. Once I got rid of it, tho, those 200g meat suddenly became a nice money source. And now I had room in my inventory for things like potions and castaway feathers!
At some point I stopped playing and just continued clicking after the play button without looking at where. There's only so much effort I'm prepared to give for a medium badge.
So apparently daily badges, which I thought were the main draw of this site compared to any other flash game site, are less important than potentially being able to use stickers in the chat. Good to know. (I say potentially because every time I got curious and went to see what kind of stickers are they, it says there are none available.)
@MarkZXmaster that's not even close to the only reason. The keys are so sticky, especially when in combat, that so far they've killed me more than any actual danger.
Updated walkthrough: When you get attacked, upgrade the egg and keep going. First time you get down to 35 fish, get fishers#1-3, fishers lv2-4. Immediately upon starting get jack+upgrade, tree+upgrade, gatherer, home lv2. Then: jack lv3, gatherer lv2, jack#2, tree#2, jack lv4, gatherer#2, gatherer lv3, tree#3, gatherer lv4, jack#3, home lv3, tree#4, gatherer#3, jack lv5. Wait until 370 gold, then upgrade tree to lv5 all in one go. Then: env lv2, home lv4, jack#4, gatherer#4, gatherer lv5, tree#5, jack lv6, home lv5, tree#6, gatherer#5, jack#5, home lv6, gatherer lv6. Wait until 3400 gold, then get tree lv6-8 all at once. Then: jack lv7, home lv7, tree#7, jack lv8, env lv3, home lv8, env lv4, tree #8, env lv5, env lv6, env lv7, env lv8, jack#6, env lv9, env lv10, env lv11. Feel free to adjust, if you find yourself about to starve then interrupt to upgrade env or fishers. if your first tree is too far away or the second spawns behind the first, you might want to restart. @saleee: the score is a direct result of time, and nothing else. So if you want a better score, just rush the ending. Following my walkthrough consistently got me scores of above 1000 points, btw.

Feel free to adjust, if you find yourself about to starve then interrupt to upgrade env or fishers. You can delay fishers, but you might get screwed over by (not kidding) the placement of the first 3 trees (lumberdwarves don't work on the way back and take too long). Hope this helps!
I love how the enemies will always go wherever they're checking you and won't forgive a single mistake on your part. Gotta stay on your toes! And remember that hovering over your knight or an enemy will show all possible moves for that piece.
