This game is pretty awful to be honest. As has been said before, 1/2 the screen is wasted on that side frame, the game is a pain to understand, and as of my 5th attempt in I've yet to be able to kill a full wave. Sure, its pretty, but with this quality of design it doesn't matter much.
I was really thinking more 3... 3.5 at high before level 15. The game plays decently, but is very poorly written (seriously, use the word children, not kids. Kids just doesn't have any impact) and hooooooooooorribly balanced. I'm genuinely unsure of how level 15 is supposed to play. I beat the first 10 levels... once I figured out how towers worked properly (a good set of instructions would be a bonus), but as levels went up the hero's ranged attack became near useless and things kept surviving my bays of towers. Having everything spawn on top of you at level 15 was the break point, no real need to come back to this one.
What exactly were all you 'omgwtfbbq its a dressup game' people expecting? Its named "Halloween Make Over Design". You either came in here solely to bitch at the game, which is sad in of itself, or you actually expected this to be a platformer or something. I can't decide which is more depressing...
I highly recommend not bothering with anything but stick man towers and then at the end maybe a few boss towers/teleport towers. The stick men are hugely better than anything else.
Someday I'll understand why anyone likes this game or what its based off of, and on that day I will understand everything. Its a low grade sidescrolling fighter with a horrible story, boring characters, and generally effortless play.
In essence, this is what you get when you take a Thing Thing game and make it more obvious of a Metal Slug take off. Not that thats a bad thing necessarily, its a decent game.
Reasonably fun, but I've lost twice now by a few seconds since it doesn't actually end the timer until after a very lengthy animation. Thats a rather annoying feature, it makes the actual target time under 5:50 or so.
I always cringe when I see a game open with 'keep an open mind'. More than anything, it signifies that the game is all concept with little quality design. Its the kind of thing someone specializing in modern art says before opening an exhibit of fire hydrants in curious poses. This really is no exception, the challenge of the game is to figure out what you're supposed to do and how the controls work. The game is covered in a white haze which I'm sure seemed very meaningful to the designers but overall its just kind of obnoxious. That being said, the music is very nice, which is sadly its only really redeeming feature as a game.
Its like a Roberta Williams game without the charm to make up for the rather obnoxious and occasionally obtuse 'puzzles'. Between that and the posters comments this gains a very low score.
