5/5.
Graphics = epic. I'm also v. impressed with the amount of crap you can get onscreen before slowdown
Audio = the music never gets annoying, and the sound effects are cool
Animation = everything blows up very nicely. Feels solid!
Design = while I sometimes feel limited in the ways I can build my base (shields are NECESSARY, some guns are useless) there's a lot of customizalbility here.
Gameplay = Controls are smooth and extremely responsive! I got a little tired of having to charge up the heavy cannon's shots but that's the price you pay for asskicking.
My winning strat was Heavy cannon in front, shield in back, damage booster in middle/bottom, and decoys. Shield the heavy cannon. Max out damage boost, HC damage, and shield bonus. Give decoys guns as soon as possible. After campaign 2 I never purchased a machine gun and always had 10-20k+ cash lying around at the end of a campaign.
Radio plasmids are practically useless, does anyone use those? v_V
Maybe i'm musically inept, but it's difficult to equate the music with what's happening onscreen. The boss level was interesting, and the only one I felt really matched the music the best. 4/5 for a good implementation, but it needs better graphics.
Controls are far too unresponsive. I suggest changing them to mouse-based. There's simply too much crap to have to dodge for digitally updated acceleration to be feasable. It's almost impossible to get the player to STOP moving, and there's too much crap shooting at you for you to be able to stand still. 3/5 for horrible controls and lack of graphical polish... though I do really like your transition effects and the map-based level system is a really neat, novel idea!
I love the world you're creating with your games. The controls and framerate on this are unfortunately very detrimental, and there's not much here I haven't seen in a billion other platformers.
4/5, it's visually very unique and a little creepy. The second level was my least favorite, even when I'd figured out what to do, it was extremely frustrating to accomplish. The fifth level was a little 'different' and took a long time to finish.
The music was outstanding. I'm not really a fan of the ambiguous storyline/backstory but I love the associations with the game itself.
Please continue to make games with unique UI like this. :-D
This needs a subtitle, how about "Coil: Flying Fetus Fighters"?
It's very, very slow paced. Maybe a nice compromise between selling and not-selling would be the ability to 'turn off' a few mages... like ordering a 'hold!'. I know that makes things tough against Absorbers, but since you don't know what's coming until you've played it, this prevents your colossal waste of time if you happen to focus 'too much' on any one element.
I will say, this is a really, really nice and polished sequel. Love the rpg/puzzlequest map. Needs save features :(
The concept is great, the controls are pretty good, the music is relaxing... but the game is super fast-paced. Geometry wars etc. works because it's nothign but action. You've introduced a puzzle element which makes it extremely difficult to concentrate on both things at once. Since so many things can damage the star, maybe remove one of them (picked up shapes should not hurt the star!). Collision on the shapes would help too - most of the time the shape I want to match is on top of another shape and I can't grab it. Simple physics would make this a little different without ruining the neat puzzle aspect!
The time limit is interesting but should be a 'mode' - this is a neat variant on "The Game of Life". Would it be possible to build in a scrolling field of view?
Feels like there could be more here.
oops, after playing it for a long time, i have a few suggestions, but still 5/5
- show song length, and maybe a progress bar?
- If you can prebuffer equalization levels, maybe a 'preview' linegraph, so you have an idea of the average volume of the upcoming song.
- holding down the Z/X keys continually raises/lowers bars
- If you could make this a little more interesting visually... hypnotic!
- A "Clear All" button that resets all bars back to zero.
- the ability to browse and vote +/- on songs other people upload (pipe dream, I know)
- make the custom option more prevalent! SO RAD.
great preloaded music too! ;-D props to the newgrounds guys
This game is SO underrated. The custom option is the best. An extremely underrated fusion of music and a fun mechanic.
Kongregate - please feature this and make some badges!
I started with a 4 and upgraded to a 5 - while the concept isn't super-original, the art, music, and theme all make the atmosphere perfect. The bonus video at the end ties it all together - maybe for a future project you could integrate more of those story-concepts into the game, so solving the puzzles uncovers more about.... ... the walls
The powercore ending is funny, but I don't like that you 'can't interact' with certain elements. It's extremely misleading. Otherwise, very cleverly done. The navigation is ass though - couldn't get to the grate screen until I looked through comments and I was like "what the hell are they talking about..."
4/5 for UI problems, but the puzzles were smart! Keep making point and clicks!!!!
There needs to be an ability to remove tiles from a ring once you've placed them. Even if you can just do it X times per level. Otherwise this is based too much on luck.
The last boss is impossibly hard. Why did i put all these points into shield, gun, and engine if it kills me in 2 hits and I can't outrun or outgun it? If you're not moving at the start of the level, you're insta-dead. The FX are pretty nice but it feels like Sinistar raped Geometry Wars while on meth.
The premise is clever but the flower control is awful. If I highlight 6 flowers, sometimes it will kill a bug, sometimes not. Try making the bugs quicker, the flowers slower, and give the flowers better horizontal acceleration. try also randomizing the total damage of each flower, some do 2x, some are faster, etc. if you also make it so only 2x2 squares create flowers, this would require more strategy and less guessing. email me if you have any questions that may have been confusing. 5/5 on the art and concept, very cool!!!
