Pretty good. Not the best Asteroids game on the site, but nice. I like the fact that there's just regular powerups instead of between-level upgrades, but the problem is that the fully maxed gun stinks. I would much rather have the super rapid-fire double pulse than the triple pulse. I think it's neat how you have to be careful not to destroy the powerups, but that idea just goes to waste here since you just get penalized for collecting too many anyways. Conclusion: the final weapon should be better. Nice game overall. 4/5.
Decent game, and pretty funny too. Wait, what did you say? "Mindless violence went out with the creation of the storyline"? That's one of the jokes, right? If not, I couldn't disagree more. If you ask me, "storylines" are ruining video games. I really like how the flash scene has revived solid 2D action games. Sure, a lot of it is total crap, and some of your observations are right on the money. But that's why we have sites like Kong to help us sort through it all.
I dunno... I prefer adventure games where the items are easier to find, but the puzzles you solve with them are harder. In this game, it's usually pretty obvious what you have to do once you have the right equipment, but finding all the items is a chore. How was I supposed to know that that two-pixel scribble on the wall was a knife? I returned to the apartment 3 or four times before I found it. Oh well. Awesome cutscenes. 3/5.
Heh yeah not by me though. And I was so close.... I guess I should make a comment on the game while I'm here. It's good. Way better than your Solitary Fours game.
Is it even possible to lose this game? I just won my first 27 games in a row without undoing and never came close to getting stuck. just keep the kings in one stack and play the other cards as soon as you can, and the game wins itself. If I don't lose in the next 20 minutes, I'm quitting and never playing again. Have I just been getting lucky? Right now, it seems like I could keep my streak going indefinitely without really trying.
Like everybody says, this game is easy to beat, and not too hard to beat without losing a life. But for some reason, I still keep playing it. It's fun to set up your own challenges for yourself. I haven't beat it with all tacks yet, but I'm guessing it's possible. I just beat it with one dart and the rest tacks. Of course, I only had 11 lives left (lost most of 'em in the first 20 levels or so), but I'm sure my methods could be improved. So, if people say they've beat it with all tacks, I'll have to give them the benefit of the doubt.
Not as good as Retro Blaster, obviously, but still pretty great. I think people who aren't Asteroids buffs will have a bit easier time with this, because the ship isn't quite so peppy.
This could be the best Asteroids ripoff I've ever played. It's amazing how many people have tried and failed to improve on a game that's going to be celebrating its 30th birthday in a couple years. This game is one of the few that really successfully updates the formula. Nice upgrades and enemies. Normally I prefer old style one-hit death to lifebars, but here I don't mind because the controls are really zippy right off the bat, and the starting difficulty is not bad either. The lifebar gives inexperienced players a chance to catch on, but good players can't abuse it too much because there's only one life. And let's face it, in this day and age even most people with lots of experience with Asteroids-style controls are going to be a little rusty. Anyway, this is a supermega 5/5, and I'll be playing it all night.
It IS really hard, but that's not a bad thing. The important thing is, it's fun. I do think the game would do better if it was a bit easier, at least on the first round. It's great if a game is really hard to beat, but I think a lot of people are going to give up on this before they even really get the hang of it. Their loss, I guess. I've gotten to the third game, and I'm not giving up! This is way better than a lot of Flash soccer games. 4/5.
It stinks that you die instantly on "No more moves", without even getting a chance to use your items. You should only die on NMM if you have no items left.
I've always thought that the old grid- based way of moving on these games is better than this kind of new and improved go-anywhere movement. In the old style, you could get yourself into some pretty interesting situations, but with this I usually just keep going around in circles. Anyway, it's a well-made game. 3/5
It's about time somebody updated Time Pilot. Awesome. I have only one complaint, and it's one I've made about other games, but I'm not sure how many people agree with me: It's not good to have a game where you have to move with the mouse and click rapidly and continuously to shoot. It's hard to keep up for very long, and gives me cramps. I always end up moving my left hand over to click while my right hand moves the mouse, which is a little awkward. It would be nice if there was an option to fire with spacebar or something, or maybe move with the arrow keys as well. Anyways, it's still great. 4/5.
