I like the idea of the bestiary but there is no way I am going to memorize all the weaknesses/resistances of every monster. It would be much better if I clicked on a monster and it just gave me the info. Not that it really mattered to me since I only used physical attacks against minions. And the bestiary is very annoying to go through since it is a list with just names. By the time I got to the Bridge I had so many monsters it would take forever to find it so I stopped using the bestiary all together. It would be improved if it were a grid with names and pictures of enemies and you click on that image to get info. And if all the information was on one page instead of two………………. I really enjoy how “speed” works in this game. I could tell who would go next and why they would go next. Though I am not sure how some enemies got a first action before me and my speed maxed out guys did. I guess the starting position of units is random
Since I spent almost the whole game fighting minions I put all of my points into speed and attack just so that I could finish the minion fights faster which worked out really well for minions…………………I really like how every fight or two you get enough SP to go up a rank. Sadly though the system is mostly pointless. If the game has only one pathway what is the point of making it all curvy. And since the majority of the ranks have no choice why pester the player to activate it, just make the game do it. The only time I made a decision while leveling up was the occasional “pick one of these two” (which is a great system) and choosing a new class (which is also great) but why bother me with the rest of the leveling up when it should just be automatic. I’m one of those guys who prefers “new strategic skills” over “just increasing numbers” but whatever.
Some players might prefer fighting 1 or 2 guys at once 30 times per floor, but I always like RPGs where you get fewer fights against stronger enemies. And you regenerate mana after every fight. That way buffs/debuffs lasts longer (which is a huge deal), you have to plan things out better, you see the intro/outro far fewer times, it allows for more powerful abilities to be used more often, its more challenging, its more fair, and it creates a greater sense of accomplishment after you beat it. And it would have also complement the “speed” system since longer battles allow for faster characters to “lap” slower monsters more times.
And while it might seem that I am doing nothing but whine I did have a fairly good time playing this, mainly because I like the characters and wanted to see where the plot was going. The hope that the gameplay and design would get better also kept me going. But the game should not start to get fun after 8 hours, it should be fun right off the bat, or at max 20 minutes. As much as I really like the characters I just got bored. I know my comment is abusively long but then again, I had a lot of time and spare brain power to analyze this game.
The outline feature is really a game changer and saved me a bunch of time. Great feature.....................I don't know what is up with level 30 since I can't come up with a real strategy but was able to accidentally win.............I think the politician might literally have balsa wood for bones since the game wood is stronger than steel and can take a cannon ball point blank.
This was a really great game. I can understand what is going on, the puzzles make sense and have a coherent structure.......................It took me 14 levels before I had even a hint of difficulty. Which is fine since I guess the official version is harder. Likewise I was very happy when I beat level 20 and 24 on my first try. Awesome.
first problem happened at 14 I beat level 20 and 24 on my first try. Awesome.
One thing this game really needs is a way to lower the quality. For slow laptops like mine it is literally impossible to click (shoot) and move at the same time since the game can only take so many commands at a time.
Gosh darn, these just keep getting better. I like how there are three stars to collect AND a specific mission. Granted I usually skipped them but it was still cool to try for it.
A really great game. It great how the simple concept of adding to 10 allows us to easily see what we need to do. Most of the challenge comes from moving the blocks rather than adding blocks..........I love the undo button because I would sometimes accidentally mis-click..................... The one simple thing this game desperately needs is the ability to skip levels. Give us 4 "skip a level" tokens.
A good game. The graphics are pleasing and allow the player to easily see what is going on. The controls are smooth and easy to understand and the head throwing physics are absolutely fantastic. It really is impressive how I the head moves exactly where I want it to at just the right speed.........The game is fairly easy though. I was able to get all 3 coins on my first try and I only died around 7 times.......... One thing that is, interesting, is how there are no indications as to what each button/switch does. In other games this would result in me getting annoyed when I press the wrong switch, but in this game the puzzles are very linear and fairly easy so you just have to "keep moving forward" without having to plan ahead. There is usually just one button to press and it is easy to predict what to do next.
I really like how the enemies, bullets and money are so easy to see...........One thing that was annoying is how rockets and electricity target bullets rather than enemies. This is annoying because the enemies stay alive and then shoot out more enemies that my electricity/rockets target again instead of the enemy. It is not a big deal, but it is noticeable........I like how I can reset my characters powers.
I liked this game. I am very glad there was an option to change the controls because it really did help the game. Sadly the game URGENTLY needs some way to mute. It needs it so bad........ The gameplay in this game is fairly simplistic but it works out surprisingly well. The desire to get more followers, being sad when they die, throwing aliens off a cliff and looking for loot all works out well and there is just enough story to keep moving forward.
I really dug the economy in this game. The fact that food is money is both convenient since I always spend spare cash on medkits and it makes sense given the world's setting......... Pressing space to judo flip aliens over is surprisingly fun. It is entertaining to throw them off a cliff or flip them into a fire. If you are good you can flip an alien, then move across before they get up and flip them again so you can flip an alien across the map. It is also fun to flip an alien then shotgun then in the face. Sadly it is usually too easy to "sneak up" on an alien and flip them over and over until they die. The aliens are not that scary when 1 dude can kung-fu 50 aliens to death by himself.
The ally system works surprisingly well. It is great to stumble upon them and see them fighting on their own. Likewise, the fact that we lose them at the end of a level rather than keeping them actually works in the game's favor because otherwise I would obsess over keeping them alive rather then enjoying the game. But still, it would be cool if I could somehow heal them......... The last boss was kinda loose and wonky, but at least it was a fitting climax to the game. I only bought/upgraded by pistol and shotgun so I very nearly ran out of ammo........... The story is minimal, very brief and lacking any characters but it is still enough to keep me wanting to move forward and it makes sense. The fact that it is presented very quickly and can be stepped is a big plus.
Whooo, finally reached level 40. By maxing out my rockets and Tesla cannons and equipping infinite jumps I can basically get infinite score in Survival mode by just "flying" near the top of the screen where basically nothing can touch me and my homing weapons can still hit the enemy with ease. I scored 25,000 meters before getting bored and killing myself.............As noted by the fact that I beat the game, I liked this game. The leveling up worked and the gameplay mechanics work well.
The leveling up system is interesting. I basically focused only on the tasks and I usually could scrounge enough money to get by. But there were several cases where I had to viciously grind. Like collecting 30 power ups which was annoying because there is no way to speed that up. And some missions like "kill 6 bosses" required grinding the level 1 boss level...............One thing that would greatly help the game would be that if I press the right button (or D) that my character would run faster because the starts of most levels are brutally slow and boring
For some reason I always got a chuckle about how my dude smacks against a wall and fall off the screen.......... Easily the biggest problem the game has is that in harder areas the character is COMPLETELY obscured by coins, bullets, enemy corpses and lasers. I literally cannot see where my character is at all. Fortunately I was smart enough to figure out predict where my guy was because I was used to the physics and could count how many jumps I had done. The easy way to fix this is to make the character's layer (or sprite or whatever) appear above everything else as opposed to right now where everything else is on top of him
I like the weapon variety. Even though we quickly lose them forever when we level up they help the pacing. The only real problem is how they are upgraded. I though ahead and never leveled up anything except for the last guns because I knew all the previous gun's upgrades would be lost. It would be cool if we got our money back when we upgraded a gun..................Like I said before, the upgrading system is interesting but the biggest flaw is the missions that require you to do thing you can only do after you are a specific level (such as beat 15 side missions). As you can tell, it is not a good idea to have a system where you can only level up AFTER you are a specific level. It just is not a good idea. Fortunately these wonky missions are 1 star only so I could get around it.
One consistently annoying thing that kept happening is that enemy corpses would block my shots. A few times two guys would show up and I would minigun the first guy but could not kill the second guy because the first guy's corpse got in the way and I get shot to death. And way too many times a corpse would fling towards me I would grenade myself to death. Likewise, I think enemy bullets can phase through enemy corpses. If in the next game the player's bullets could pass through enemy corpses, but the corpses are still affected by physics it would make Zombotron even better.
Another excellent Zombotron game. The grenade launcher is my favorite weapon because in addition to the usual explosive goodness, it let me arc my shots around corners and hit enemies that normally would have shredded me. And I am glad we get the minigun fairly early on................The levels with the giant truck had some of the best and worst moments in the game. Seeing the truck burst through walls and fall through the floor are great, but when I can't get up a hill because a single robo head is in my way I get annoyed. And I had to restart level 13 around four times because my car got stuck in something a Pinto could have escaped...........I wish the dialogue boxes were faster because they took so long that I started to skip some sections.
Thank you for playing!
