>>question: do all weapon level IV require rubies, and all armor IV sapphires, or is it mixed up, so some weps need sapphires and others rubies?

actually, this info is not in the wiki that I can see, not listed in materials, equipment, or weapons. should probably be added to the weapons as a note at the top, and to armors as a note at the top of that as well.
and thanks to Uthief for the info.
healer mercs simply don't heal enough, even with the upgrade they still only heal 4, while the enemies can pileup in a single lane and do 30 damage a turn. it would be good if enemies could not stack in a single square.
you can get a ruby from level 7 of merc defense, and a saphire from the fishing area that opens up after you beat the Dargon King. You really don't need level 4 weapons to beat the dargon king, so I think it become a tad easier to get these items after you beat him and go on with the game.
...oh and give lina all speed items and 3:1 speed over anything else in her skill choices. she should always be going first, then casting sleep all (when she gets it), then the others can power up while she steals.
for those just starting, wondering how to build characters... go any way you think looks good... except, give lina levels in trickster asap, so she can put everyone to sleep, then steal all the things. meanwhile, your other guys can simply power themselves up to annihilate the enemy once there is nothing left to steal. best way to gain items, money, and power, without taking any damage.
peeps: the new update is very buggy; devs are working on it, but recommend you avoid playing for a day or two until they are ironed out. lots of problems getting experience and rewards, etc, being reported in chat.
going back to check, I see blood from werewolves in frost fort as well. so highlands and frost fort. the werewolves earlier than highlands never ever dropped any blood.
blood is a really rare drop. the only place i got it from was from stealing from the werewolves in the highlands area. that's it. and only 2 after an hour of trying. roots weren't hard in comparison. go back to any of the grassy plains areas, and steal/kill plants. I got one for about every 10 plants. In any case, yes, it is way too hard to get ingredients for a lot of the weapons, discouraging people from even trying, since you need to invest in whatever basic sword you have fairly soon. hell, I didn't manage to even MAKE a vampiric weapon until i reached the snow area, and by then, my heatblade was already past level III, and a lot of other items needed boosts as well.
I have 3 coupons for mercs in my bag that I picked up as rewards or loot, but none of them work. I have to spend money at the shop to buy a coupon instead. that needs fixing.
golem defense II is way too hard. takes too much luck to beat it. too many monsters coming too fast, and some take at least a 4 way combo to take out, let alone you have to kill ALL of them to even do damage to the golem. try slowing the rate of monster drop by half would be good.
regen still needs buffing. even with a 300 magic skill AND the amulet that boost magic on start, it still only does about 34 a turn, which is pathetic given that even the weakest enemies in the normal areas I'm in now (the areas leading up to saving your kidnapped party member) do about 120-150 damage per turn. to compare, my average heal does 500 heal, regen should do at least 10% of whatever your current heal power does.
