i wonder why it is that roads and cables don't bother me in the least, until fluids are required in addition? and even then, only barely? run your cables in // with your roads, eliminate cables or roads wherever you can, by running coal quarries off coal burners, or by using coal burners and a supporting coal quarry to power the burner. before burners, just hook your power needs right to a windmill!
to piggyback off what ittlecas said, you can go off the grid by sticking a coal burner next to a coal quarry. you just have to jump-start it and it's self sufficient. place the coal by the road to gain coal, or you can place the burner next to something that needs power.
i was starting to consolidate my sand production and remove cables, right before you said that... but the amount i'm getting from windmills is abysmal. i don't have quite the production of you, sadly.
@kohlenstoff sometimes it's cheaper to expand though... could i see your levels too? i like what you did for crude, i might do something similar for that area. i'm at about a day into things, so...

been playing about an hour or two and i'm noticing some glaring flaws... can't go back a level to something that won't kill you in one stroke, can't upgrade anything while dead, respawn timers get excessively long, uncommon chests costs 300% to open but give only 200%, hero damage is seriously unbalanced, hermit healing is pathetic for the price... if i could choose one thing to change, it would be being able to go back a level. i feel like i wasted the kreds i spent here, being able to hit a bottleneck that doesn't allow a soft reset so quickly.
baldurans, this is why i had suggested to you that you should only upgrade the generator 3's to 3-5x rather than the 10x. slightly upset about the drop but i was expecting it for a while :P
for everyone going "this game needs a simulator", you have two options. Option one: go into settings, export your save. Option two: open the game in a new window, do not close the old one. use new window as your simulator, close simulator window *first*. wait a little while for old game to overwrite save. simulator complete.
