Not one of the better launcher games. The "fuel" is pointless since it is used so quickly. and I have said this before and I will say it again..please use COMMON SENSE controls. If you are making a keyboard game, then allow me to NEVER Ttake my hand off the keyboard! You allow me to go from screen to screen with the space bar. So why NOT allow me to go on to start he next attempt with the space too! Especially in a game that is so ridiculously grindy that I will go several attempts between being able to upgrade, I don't want to have to go to the mouse every damn time. Also..Because it WAS so grindy, the sounds, including the plagiarized Vincent Price Thriller laugh, got old and tiresome pretty fast.
I don't know why people like these games. Especialy this one. The mini-games are not NEARLY fun enough to play them A HUNDRED TIMES EACH! And that basically is what you need to do to level up at least 3 ducks in order to play the tournaments. These mini-games are not fun enough to play TWICE...let alone 100.
Any time you do a long jump, you may as well go take a nap, wake up, take a shower, have a nice breakfast, go to work, come home, go out for a nice dinner at a fancy restaurant, have sex with your wife, come home, go back to bed, and then wake up in the morning and check your game. You will still be halfway in the air. I'm not sure why they thought it was such a good idea to make the game slow to a crawl like that, but it definitely is NOT a good idea.
This whole game is ruined by the fact that they inexplicably got rid of hte NUMBERED shortcut keys. IT is as if htey forgot the definition of SHORTCUT. IT is supposed to make it easier to comlete tasks one handed (since your one hand is on the mouse) without having ot look down at hte keyboard! So...maybe instead of making the shortcut be hte first letter of what you are doing, you keep the other way the older games had and have them the nubmers since htey are ALL RIGHT NEXT TO EACH OTHER! Why I am in the heat of battle, I don't want to have to figure out what key my finger is on and say "Hmmm..I think I am on the M key to up my mana...let's hope I am not on N to star the next wave instead!"
I also think that being able to choose your gem makes it just like every other tower defense game that exists. But the shortcut key change is a dealbreaker.
The one thing this game needs is the ability to tell your towers what to target. Because their AI is the dumbest I have ever seen. It almost seems like it purposely targets the WORST possible enemy. High mana loss enemies just one hit away from being killed will be let go even though they are closest to the end and instead a swarm monster will be targeted even though they will cost much less, and will not be destroyed before they get out of range. So it would be nice to be able to tell specific towers to go after either the closest, lowest hit points, or highest mana loss enemies.
This game is much better than the other GemCraft sequels. The only thing I miss is the water slowdown. I like that better than the trap. But other than that, it kept all the tings that made GemCraft unique, whereas Chasing Shadows turned into just another Tower Defense game where you bought specific towers and upgraded as you went.
Sorry, but this is a real left down from the original. First off...it is SLOOOOOOW. Not just the game play (which yes, you can speed up, but that is not the same), but also loading each level. And second, this takes the originality of the original and turns it into just another tower defense game, with choosing your towers and upgrading. And finally, it suffers the same thing so many great flash games suffer when they started going after the mobile audience. Goes for style over substance.
I can't imagine playing this on a mobile device. The text for your units and upgrades are tiny enough on a large monitor. It is a shame that the game went for style over substance for the text. Especially since units change in later missions so you have to read the new abilities. The usual way of showing towers/units is much easier to read and should have been implemented in this game. Otherwise, it looks like a great game. Not quite Kingdom Rush great...but a better than average TD game.
There are just so many things that SHOULD have been changed from the first one that weren't to make this anything other thna a waste of everyone's time. First off.. a mount controlled game MUST have auto-pause when the mouse goes out of the game window. If there was a school for creating flash games, it would literally be the very first thing the teacher says. And second...WHY continue the concept of having ZERO incentive to kill enemies? IT doesn't control how much money you get, and it doesn't control you stars. And I remember the first game, you could actually screw yourself out of stars by becoming TOO upgraded. On boss levels, you would kill the boss before all 5 stars fell, even if you tried really hard to avoid shooting it. So what do the creators do? They make the same exact mistakes for the second one! Genius!
IT seems OK, but it looks like they went for stylish looks over game play. Everything is way too small and just plain unnatural for a tower defense game. Sometimes the tried and true method that has worked well for the last 12 years or so is the best. Also...games like this must...repeat MUST...have a speed up feature. Whether it is clicking a 2X or 3X box in the corner, or like games like Curse Tower does, space bar to speed up.
I never came across this game before, but I can see it was one of those great game series that was greatly dumbed down for mobile devices. So once again, mobile devices are killing the internet.
This is still a better than average tower defense game, but not as good as the original. Definitely feels like a levels pack, which, admittedly, is what it is called. I was able to get through all but the last level on the first try, including the second to last one with a brilliant rating first try, which a very low level so not much upgrades. After that, it really did feel like a grind replaying levels just to level up to get all brilliants. Whereas in the first game, since I occasionally failed some levels, it didn't feel quite as grindy to replay them.
IT's not bad..but the ghosts are unfair. I know it is a tower defense standard to have enemies that are invisible (or some other way invincible) for a short time..but these ghosts move way too fast while they can' be hit for such short maps. It would be one thing if you have SMART towers that knew to shoot all ghosts just enough to turn them invisible as soon as possible. But when my early map towers are taking out slower moving enemies, while allowing the ghosts to move on to my next set of towers, it is more frustrating than challenging.
I like this game more than I expected. The one thing it could use is some sort of progress bar to let you know how many more enemies you have to face before the next level.
Am I missing something, or do you actually have to quit out of your game in order to upgrade, meaning you have to start all over again? IF so, this brings an already below average shooting/upgrade game down another notch or two. I suppose the creators thought that making you go down instead of up was enough to make the game different and cover up all the bad features. But they were wrong.
Hi Lakawak,
You don't have to start the entire game back to upgrade your gun, you just have to wait until you've ended one entire stage (3 levels) and kill the boss, so you go back to the menu to upgrade your gun and can keep going through the next stages.
It's a problem for a lot of players indeed, our developpers will fix it in the next version of the game! We'll change a lot of features, taking your concerns into consideration to offer you a very enjoyable game!
Thanks for you thoughts, and have a nice day!
