I got a few laughs out of this game, and the gameplay wasn't bad [I'm one of those leathery sphincters Berserk Ball was about, so I'm impressed], but is there a chance of a low-effects option? I felt like my laggy graphics card was the source of most of the challenge here.
"Move In" isn't the opposite of "Explore," it's what sets your home location. Goodbye mate, eggs, and puny collection of exotic blocks. Oh, and gold tiles dropped by monsters are equipment; I found a helm with some hit points on it.
Now that I've figured out more or less how to play it, I'm having more fun on this than on the big-budget premium-shop thing I was playing before. I can't wait 'til the game's closer to a finished product.
I am very glad to hear that the levels are randomly generated. I'm a breezy one-third through the game, and it threw something impossible at me and called its difficulty a mere 36. A tip for myself and anyone else curious about a hard level; come back later.
I can't believe this game has so few plays... anyway, I wrote a strategy guide for New Game +. It has pictures and frills and a pinch of fanfiction; here's hoping you other fans enjoy it. http://www.kongregate.com/forums/3-general-gaming/topics/345958-amber-helix-strategy-guide-walkthrough Mr. Diser: if anything posted there is inaccurate or unwanted, let me know. I'd be happy to change or remove it.
Ugh. The dungeons are over and I need to grind 200,000 to finish my dirigible. I would really, really like to sell some of these upgrades, because I'm not finding this "difficulty" thing. I see from the update log that gems' rewards have been increased a few times, but I'm not sure it's enough. I think a second cash flow power item wouldn't hurt.
Sorry Sprint and folks, but there's a reason Super Metroid had you hold *away* from the wall to jump: it allows more air control and more skillful jumps. Which I guess is small fries when I'm stuck with the worst jump button possible. Anyway with the lenient gold times to compensate, this game wasn't bad. Thanks GregAnims.
450 deaths, and a full third of them on that blue boss level. I haven't seen challenge like this since Give Up, Robot. Thank you. Now, is there any chance we can get an arrow to show us which way we're pointing while spinning atop a blue magnet...?
"Mmm... cheese." Thank you for raising the bar for tower defense games yet again. Playing with that Transcoder was fun; I'm kind of glad the most OP thing I could do in most levels was link-splash-fork Sentries.
Over 50% of my losses are due to the game jumping for me after I hit an autojump zombie that was hidden behind all the rest of the stuff on the screen. I appreciate how thought is more important than timing in here, but after half a second, at most, there is absolutely no chance that entering my every keystroke sequentially is going to help me.
Fun as always. Great visuals and sound. I felt like the difficulty curve was extremely slow, but the last fights didn't let me down [although it was hard to resist grinding for items, lest I get a higher level than the end foes]. Humbly suggested ideas for the future: higher item drop rates for higher difficulties, and maybe some tough early miniboss-type battles to keep it challenging.
You're a hell of a storyteller, Mr. Helix, and this is one of my fave Flash games. I'm looking forward to more. Also, the 1.15 version you posted today doesn't seem to be showing up [still says 1.14 for me]. Not sure if this is a problem on my end or not.
Sometimes the old version gets stuck in your cache. When that happens restarting the browser works for me, but it probably depends on your browser's settings. Anyway, I am happy that you liked the game so much. =)
Gods, yes, there's an undo option for drone deletion? Where's the sixth star, where's the tip jar? I already know this will be a find to rival Red Rogue, and WHY is the score so low?! Really hope to see more from this team...
The tip jar feature has been removed from the site, I read on the forums. And I do think I will start working on a sequel once I've updated this game some more. =)
I'll fix the way blocks with items look shortly.
