Note: There is an extra explosion whenever the boss shoots missiles. This explosion will hit you if you're standing right in front of the boss, even if the missile doesn't. This is to keep you from punching the boss as it shoots.
satanasmalvado: If your units are all dying before they get to attack, work on increasing their speed, or better yet, swap them out for faster units. Ideally, you want at least one really fast unit that can kill their fastest unit, giving your next unit a chance to attack. Early in the game, "Ticub" (later "Tigertan") is pretty good at this, if you use the speed tree.
About Epic Powers: core-based Epic Powers are better than arm-based Epic Powers. Period. Spikey Chaos is probably the best - it clears the screen and keeps it clear for multiple seconds, except for lead bloons. (And with research, it can kill most lead bloons too.) Mass Distraction removes the shields from all non-lead bloons. MOAP kills almost all non-black non-boss bloons, but is slower than Spikey Chaos, doesn't last as long, and doesn't always pop all layers. Lightning Trail is the only magic ability worth getting, and it kills lots of bloons and lasts a while, but it also lags horribly in some cases. I haven't gotten Sidekick yet, but if Solid Doom is any indication, it'll have absurd DPS - better than even Lightning Trail.
Having beaten every level with every weapon type, and having beaten the game twice, here is my strategy: use Spikey Shots and laser vision. Spikey Shots is the best arm-based attack despite being the second-cheapest, and laser vision is a good way to pop lead bloons - the only thing Spikey Shots won't pop. The entire game is beatable with only Dual Blast and 2x Spikey Shots. (Bonus tip: boss levels are the best places to grind.)
Cokeheadriff: Actually, arrows give exactly the same score. Well, they give the same score per hit, ignoring multipliers. In practice, melee is better, so you'll have better melee multipliers.
The invincibility fix doesn't seem to have worked; I still die again instantly after slicing an active cloud or spikeball (tested both with the warrior). The only difference is, now I stay on the final frame of my attack animation and keep sliding forward. The second time I tried this, I happened to slide into a chest, but I couldn't tell if I actually got the reward.
Ugh... It starts out excellent, but by the third boss it's gotten to be super grindy. I'm talking MMO-level grindy (almost).
Yeah, I know, it's all about monetization, better ARPU, blah blah blah. You sold me on a permanent upgrade, but you're not selling me on a one-time blops purchase.
It's pretty clear that if I bought blops, all I'd get is the opportunity to grind a harder level. I'm going to find another game instead.
To everyone who's confused about why this is in beta: this isn't the version of N that you're used to playing. This is actually N v2.0, a smoother, less buggy, and all-around better version of the game. Read their blog at http://www.metanetsoftware.com/blog/ for details.
Custom shoes are the cheapest item in the shop, so buying or selling them is the cheapest and fastest way to improve your bargaining skill. Any time you have a thousand gold or so, empty your inventory into the storehouse, then just go on a buying/selling spree.
If Pheus is standing on Mor as Mor barks, both of them go flying into the air. I used this to get Pheus to the tree house on level 1, but there's nothing there. I also used it to get Mor onto the elevator at the end, but it didn't change anything.
If you can't turn left while boosting, it's a problem with your keyboard. Some keyboards aren't able to detect all key combinations, and one such combination is (usually) left+up+space.
Try using a different boost key, or use WASD instead of the arrow keys (or vice versa).
If you calculate that your 75-hp monster with stats in the 5-10 range has a 70% chance of beating my 680-hp monster with stats in the 40-100 range, you're doing something horribly wrong.
"Flying Mutant: mutant, flying."
Jim: "Thanks for clearing that up for me. I might never have figured it out on my own."
KongreBot: "No problem, boss."
I agree with karlwithak - you should be able to ride the orange spike traps if you jump on the non-spiky side. It would give the game that little extra bit of depth.
Yeah. You gotta be careful when you are close!!! The boss is mean!!
