I really thought completing all the achievements would give a better ending, but it's the same and it's very drab. It feels pretty disappointing to have played through the game to get that uninspired, well I'm back home and not happy ending. Good thing I got a badge for it, I guess.
So.. it's kind of like Metroid, but the story doesn't seem to complete itself at the end. It doesn't explain what happened, just that it did. I thought it'd be more creepy if all those "upgrades" you were getting was you learning how to walk, see, talk, etc. as an infant under an abusive mother who treated you like nothing. You were an infant and were worthless since she had to take care of you entirely.
So this is an unfinished product (a beta) that doesn't load for me (and others), when I do get loaded in there's an exhaustion meter that will ruin the experience I get if I play for an extended period of time (so I'll have to try to reconnect later), and they expect people to pay for features of this game at this point? I'm all for supporting a game developer, but give me a break; this is just a typical MMO that certainly isn't impressing me, and it's not even very functional. Fallout New Vegas is screwed to hell as well, but at least it looks more fun to play than this.
I do feel that this game does what it aims to do very well; though it definitely wouldn't substitute the real thing, for some students I could see it as a helpful resource to help them get some grasp on what they're learning. I say that from a non-medical expertise though, I can see how the simplicity here could almost hurt as well. The problem comes up as it pertains to being a game though. Is it really all that much fun? For me not so much. There's a lot of simple grinding you have to do in order to get the simple lectures necessary in order to advance in the game, I can only imagine how long it takes to do everything available. I'd say it depends on the audience and the creator's intentions though; he might not want a game that's quick-paced or all that.. umm, exciting? Depending on what he had in mind this game either does very well or not so well, but that's my opinion of course.
How is this a medium badge when the "gameplay" consists of clicking the mouse button on a few words every few seconds for a total of maybe 5 minutes to get all three endings? I do like how this game tackles a deeper issue, but a lot of the dialogue choices were pretty meaningless, or were sort of vague on where they'd take the storyline. Sometimes they were obvious, but at other times he'd say things as part of the response that'd have a lot of connotations later that weren't that obvious at first. I don't quite like how the cutting or drug that she represents is portrayed though, she's a very.. blah character I feel, and it doesn't really personify his struggle as well as I'd like. Pretty good effort, but it's not stellar to me.
Okay, I just saw the ending to this rave and fave game and all I have to say is wow. LAME. They launch a nuclear bomb, sacrificing an entire city full of people, and 15 seconds afterwards say it didn't even work at all. Ha ha ha, so everyone is completely helpless and the whole planet is doomed? I killed plenty of zombies and in theory didn't die at all, let's arm the army with Mustangs and a pistol. I also swear that the final scene is not of the same character you saw in the garage. Now I've played a fair share of games on here, and I'll be honest; why all the hype over this one, how does it stand so much more above the other games on here? Negativity aside, it's at least pretty fun (and you can customize the controls so shut up; I made the arrow keys steer, accelerate, and brake; the rest were standard).
One of my biggest annoyances is how you have to crash helicopters into road signs (they are the biggest threat for sure since they hound you) and a lot of those road signs won't be useful since there are cars on that side of the road blocking it. That absolutely sucks! Not knowing how much further you have to make it is another gripe (you figure if he's going into his garage he'd know how far he has to go before he's at the next pit stop). The pinball achievement is also more of a sign the car crashing mechanics are idiotic, it rewards you for being shifted into a car right or left over and over. It's not bad, but I never knew when the next checkpoint was or how many I had to beat in order to win. I like knowing if I have to chug through a whole ton of levels or not so I know whether or not it's worth my time; am I just one more level away, or several?
The storyline seems just a hair incomplete. Where does the original large Shadow Gate come from that spawns the sorcerers and such? It's definitely not bad, and I enjoy several aspects of the game; completion %, reasonable difficulty, pretty good story, and I didn't see the Shadow Lord boss coming, I wasn't expecting him when he rallied his war cry and started charging me, heh.
I think one problem with trying to get 100% is that some of the areas would be cleared off before you ever get to them when you rifle through dead bodies in order to look for clues. I haven't tried that hard, I just went for the badges, but it would seem restrictive not knowing if you personally went there or just crossed off places she couldn't be. Also, don't pick up every melee weapon you find, maybe one or two in your entire stock, then pick up all the guns and search for all the ammo you can find (the large crates will refill all guns, even repeats). Much easier to use fellow survivors to help kill and ignore melee weapons if possible (also don't skip the tutorial it gives you a weapon which you need).
Considering this has a checkpoint system it is very possible and in fact the later stages can be much easier than the first. The goose one comes to my mind as really easy. It took me 212 deaths, but I was able to do it; if this one had less check points though, hell no, impossible badge for certain. As it is, enough gumption and luck will get you through.
I noticed that sometimes there were more than 6 differences in a picture. Like in the last school picture, I found 6 differences and then noticed there was a bottle of water. The 6 other ones were his red hair, her glove, his shoe, the clock, and.. 2 other ones, sorry I can't remember. Wonder why that is?
I think what annoys me more than the fact that this is promoting a product is how the second time through had a lot of the same things being different as the first time you went through. If you're going to have a repeat of the game in a different skin, you could at least make sure the changes between the two scenes would also alter what would be the differences you'd spot.
It definitely wasn't a compelling story, but I thought the gameplay was well enough. As far as those who hate the control scheme.. it wasn't that damn hard. Yes, there was no way to die; so? With memory cards on video game systems is there any real punishment for losing a life or getting a game over? Not trying to say this game is freaking awesome, but ease up a bit people; never seen so much hate over a game so fast.
Pretty good game, though it does have a slippery slope where you quickly get so many bits that you don't need anymore before the 16th grinding level, but that was okay, the upgrades were just right, making for a pretty hectic final boss, especially killing that last bit. It's pretty saddening, and you really hate having absolutely no say in what happens to her; she sounded way too human right before that last level as well. Pretty awesome, made me think this was going to have a twist, this was a real story told through something seemingly artificial, glad it wasn't actually, though the ending did leave a bit more to be desired than just, hey it's fixed. Yay?
I think one of the few complaints I'd make against this game is the unlocking system; you get so many cards with the first character, and by the end, you're playing with the last guy just to get maybe one card; it'd be nice if it was a bit more spread out.
Honestly, not everyone who takes a peek at this game or who stick through with it to get all the badges is going to want to keep playing, and I think there should be a dib system or something in place so all the work done could divy out to people somehow.
Actually the game was pretty easy I thought. Frequent save points really makes what could be a f*ng bitch into a reasonable bit of challenge and fun. Interesting story, but when there's tons of free games on here, and challenges, why pay kreds to finish this?
But why is his leap into fantasy world a good thing? He might have made the planets happy, but the inhabitants were either miserable (we're glad he's gone) or disappeared (the planet blower up wanna be). Interesting concept, somewhat gay puzzles though, confusing but interesting story.
