Update: Ok, the meteor perks are now working (after I beat the game), but now the drills no longer fire. Also, it seems that my "bullet time" focus discounts aren't being counted anymore - it is going down waaaay faster than it used to.
In short, some of the perks seem to randomly go on/off.
Some of the perks appear to be bugged - I've never spawned a single meteor and wasted several perks on it. Also, one of the first perks, the 15% melee damage reflection perk does not appear to work - I let 3 guys wail on me for nearly 5 minutes trying to beat a challenge and they didn't seem to take any damage or die (unless they were "healed" by my using the active barrier which seems odd).
Customized keys would be great, the dash keys are a bit awkward, but still usable. I completely agree with needing some pause/break right when you level up because it can be a bit easy to accidentally click a perk you didn't want.
“v.1.05” I haven't tried to repeat the invisible gem bug since I first reported it, but I suspect it was due to the AI's pathfinding routine marking the teleported gem. If true, this means the bug would only occur when the gem teleports away AFTER the AI has targeted the gem, and it simply doesn't update that tracking. The fix, if true, would be to call the update function of all enemies on screen after the gem teleports.
Cheers.
Gem teleportation skill is bugged. After it "teleports" it sometimes is still there, but invisible, and enemies can pick it up. I'm not sure if this is related to the timer being reset but not being shown as reset or related to something else like fast forward.
I like the upgrade system. Costume spoilers below:
Kabuki Mask - 10% chance to do max damage on surrounding area. (damage and sniper)
Clown: 10% cheaper upgrades in surrounding area (Geminate and stun)
Zorro: +10 range in area (upgraded slow and money hat)
Rorschach: 10% reduction in firing delay in surrounding area (upgraded sniper and upgraded money)
Monkey King: +10 upper damage on surrounding area (upgraded geminate and upgraded
double damage)
Pirate Jack: +2% chance on all probability effects in the area (slow and upgraded life)
Biker: Faster upgrade time in area.(life and poison)
Graduation Effect: +2 seconds on duration effects in area. (upgraded splash and plantbomb)
Santa Claus: +10% score gained in area (upgraded geminate and splash attack)
Luke Skywalker: 3% chance to deal x5 damage on surrounding area. (upgraded plant bomb and upgraded poison).
@HoboScience: You can upgrade the number of elves - you click the big rectangle in the center. I agree that it isn't obvious though since that button looks different from the others (and kind of lack a background object).
Good game, the enemies were nice and diverse (a lot of games are crappy due to easy/boring enemies).
The storyline was quite good and the mechanics were good as well.
I do think you should have a better description in the upgrades menu of the "zero writes" - if I'd known how good they were I would've saved up for it sooner.
One hit deaths and zero write delays don't bother me, but it would be nice if you could buy an upgrade so you could take an extra hit (and maybe all the way up to 3 hits to die).
Okay, it is pretty damn stupid that you have to pay coins to duel at higher levels.
I'd like to challenge myself, but there is so much luck involved at times and the rate of gold gain is too slow (and no way to change my starting deck other than to start over), the "success" rate of the slot machine is pathetic (I've gotten 2 crap cards out 30+ rolls) - it is just pointless to try and challenge yourself because there is a good chance you'll just waste the gold.
Damn, learn about game balance.
Good first attempt, improve enemy AI, provide more interesting upgrades and make the levels less long/boring.
The final boss was kinda neat, but a health meter would be nice on him. And after the initial ship spawn phase you basically just plug away at him - have him fire missiles at you that you have to destroy.
Could've been good, but the units aren't different enough and don't seem to have any special abilities.
A little work could've made this game great instead of being so bland.
Fun game, I wish the time slow and freeze powers weren't charges that you buy. I rarely used them except on the final level.
It would be better if they charged up slowly and that the charge rate, and max charges were based on your upgrades.
@Alex, you can outrun the guys who chase you but it takes a while, you basically have to hold down sprint the entire time, don't slow for any obstacles and you'll eventually get rid of him, and she'll tell you that you can slow down.
