Frenzy stops health powerups from working on you when fully upgraded w/ willpower. REALLY annoying when you just destroyed two bases while frenzies and try to pick up two health powerups.
Sorry, this game just isn't doing it for me. I struggle with the controls more than the strategy. I have way to much trouble disconnecting tentacles and time is valuable in a game like this. This sort of thing has been done much better.
It is fun, but it is also frustrating. Some of the cards are seriously unbalanced, but that wouldn't be too much of a problem if you could choose your own cards. The game on "easy" isn't easy since you have to pray to get the cards that can defeat the opponent with whatever sadistic advantage they start out with this time. The random decks seriously wreck the game.
This is a fun little game. I'm glad you wrote out the bonuses in the instructions, but I can see you've frustrated a lot of people who didn't notice or understand them. I suggest you make the bonuses more obvious in game or in the dice rolling animation. I suspect the bonuses are per die which means they can really add for for moderate to large sized armies? In any case, more clarity would really help, adding achievements that give you bonuses and experience for your general that carry across missions would really make this a gem. I hope you make a sequel with some of these relatively simple improvements.
I haven't played every roguelike but you seem to have implemented some interesting features. I do like how you've simplified the interface a bit like by automatically opening doors instead of having to hit open. Some of the undocumented keys kind of annoyed me, but what really ticked me off was the inability to save (at least tell me how many levels are in the game).
Pros: zombies, multiple and interesting upgrade system, decent weapon selection, cool music
Cons: Zombies come too slow, upgrades requirements are generally too high (might be fixed if zombies came faster, but I doubt it), button placement is horrible and sometimes undocumented, has useless "slots" for upgrades so you can totally beef up, buggy, can't go outside building, lack of enemy variety (at least as far as I got - the game is boring as it is right now)
Summary: Potential, but needs improvement.
Level 6 was too hard - you need to reduce the time requirement on it a lot. I had the most trouble by far on that level until I'd upgraded my car a bunch - the rest of the levels were easy.
Upgrades are buggy as hell, not sure if all of them even work. I was playing with the chicken on the main screen and I think it started a new game and got rid of all my upgrades - very annoying and I'm now done with this game.
What BS, it gave me an F, for crying out loud I have a loaded shotgun 4 feet away from me right now along with other weapons (e.g. tomahawk). I can survive in the wilderness on wild plants most people wouldn't even recognize. This test is quite frankly crap.
I bet it had to do with those stupid tests; I couldn't even tell which were the zombies and which were the civilians in the shooting test - show us what the damn target is before you start the test.
A bit buggy, but a nice addition to the series.
Bugs:
Health regeneration perk doesn't work on extra health you get from boosting your life stat. This was quite annoying since it made the extra life basically useless since you don't start levels at your max life (you start at 100 instead of 200).
Also, fighting Vandeer Lorde the first time, I quit the game in the village, but when I came back the save game made me fight Lorde again.
Finally, not a bug, but I wish you could change your special move on the fly - there were several I never bothered to try because it was annoying waiting for the special meter to refill in the village.
Sorry, where is the skill exactly? This is annoying as hell; you have to know exactly how to upgrade or you just can't do enough damage fast enough. That is stupid. A shooting game should be about aiming/skill - not figuring out your screwed up upgrade system in order to win. Seriously, I'm just constantly hitting things and I can't kill them fast enough even on easy.
You had a good idea with the perks and upgrades, but this game is just not fun.
