Some more things you could do in a sequel would be to make things more synergistic. Torpedo/missile upgrades could help each other. Repulsor upgrades could enhance rail gun damage and your inherent magnetic field for credits. Missile upgrades could help out the missiles your defensive buildings fire and the lightning upgrades could make your defensive buildings slow down enemy units too. Upgrading weapon types could give you some resistance to that sort of damage - if you upgrade your laser strength then lasers hurt you less. Oh, and everyone loves it when achievements give you inherent bonuses you can't normally get.
Yes, that helped the photonic upgrade. If you do make a sequel then I think some enemies should have repulsor fields as well since you already take collision damage. Most of the weapons are great when fully upgraded. I don't seem to use the repulsor field anymore though since killing enemies with it necessitates destroying segments of my base - and it won't destroy the guys that heat up the ground when you pulse them into it. Perhaps if the health upgrade for it was vampiric and allowed you to directly kill enemies a bit then that would help make it more worthwhile in the late game.
Ah I didn't notice the base tab in the research screen. Perhaps you could point it out in the tutorial or make it more obvious?
The collision fix really helps since the repulsor is so essential in the early game. Maxed out torpedoes are great, but the photonic upgrade is barely worth it since that only works at medium range or higher and I usually just fly up to capital ships to lay it into them.
Thanks for the reset button, I'm not sure if I just didn't notice it before. In any case, I gave you 5 stars earlier because of the potential. Perhaps in the sequel you can add some bosses and make a wave limit so you can beat the game.
Oh, and it'd be nice to be able to reset my progress so I can start at wave 1 with no upgrades.
When you go into the research tab for the first time (only) all 6 catigories blink, i'll see if I can make the blinking happen every time. I made the photonic transformation occur twice as fast, see if that helps. Also, if from the main menu you goto options you can clear your saved game from there. Thanks for the awesome support!
It'd be nice if when you smash ships into the ground with the repulsor ray you'd get credits. It makes it almost worthless to use the weapon because you don't.
The laser beats most weapons without upgrades which is kind of annoying. It takes several upgrades to make missiles worthwhile. I'd like to be able to upgrade my ship so that its health wasn't so low, give it a shield, make it immune to damage from landing hard, some heat resistance at various levels, and I'd like to be able to toggle the hover key instead of holding it.
Good feedback, thanks. The new version I just posted fixes for most of that. Check out the "Defense Buildings" upgrade, that should give you the health boost your after.
I'd say experience is a bit slow going and you need to be able to use Q and E to switch weapons, but this game has potential. It is probably too difficult for a great rating though.
You need to improve money acquisition. To be specific, after level 3 or 4, every single level gave me 16k until I got to the last two levels which gave me 32k and 30k respectively. This is not acceptable. Every level should be at least 5k more than the last and the level before the final boss should give at least 50k to prevent too much grinding. The final boss absolutely needs to be worth 100k. All the upgrades aren't necessary for the final boss but some certainly are - like maxing out defense and probably health. The targeting upgrades seem worthless to me as does the sword upgrade since you have to use IVE to do any damage (and you never explained to people how to use IVE). I agree that there needs to be a delay before dodging so you know where you'll have to click, but 1 second is way too long - 200-300 milliseconds should be about right and maybe that is too long too. Oh, and add some jumping upgrades next time so you can jump higher, boost longer, etc.
Okay, played it more, I guess you are supposed to catch the ledge on some jumps, but after making it to stage 8 it is clear that some jumps are impossible or nearly impossible. I have an easier time beating the boss robots (by far) than making some of the jumps. I've literally almost beaten stages and then lost 80% of my health to some stupid jump - killing me.
If you miss a jump then take the health hit but automatically climb up the ledge you missed. This is why your rating is so low.
Yeah some of the jumps are too difficult. I assume it is because the tutorial didn't teach me how to do them properly, but I suppose some of them may be impossible depending on how you respawn. Having to wait for the dial to cycle past boost to make a double jump is frankly stupid. Double jump should be the first thing you do - and then you can do a boost if you want. Game has potential, but wasn't playtested well.
Button mashing != hitting the wrong key ONCE
Having BOTH the WASD and the arrow keys makes this game crap. WASD is not intuitive unless it means the same as the arrows.
You seriously need to playtest your games. Destroying buildings takes too long. Gaining money takes too long. You need to be able to upgrade your helpers. You need to be able to lose.
Okay, never got into EFB but I thought I'd give this a try. Basically, it is a really simple platformer with really simple RPG elements. You have a limited selection of items but you'll never use most of them unless you want to see how they look. You have a slightly less limited selection of spells, but you'll only use a few.
Leveling up doesn't feel special in any way.
You're moves remain the same for the entire game - you never learn double jump, new attacks, gliding, wall running or anything. This entire drawn out game consists of jumping from tiny platform to tiny platform with enemies occasionally knocking you off. You have to be a mage, not a pure fighter, since you can't buy anything other than spells and you need heal to survive the falls. The bosses break the monotony a bit, but it isn't worth it to get to them. This game is cute looking, nothing more, kind of how I feel about EFB in general. I'm giving it a 3 - and that's being generous.
A great idea for the next version, thanks. I like the vamp ideda too. Glad the photonic upgade helped.
