I really want to give a 5, but next time, please mention that you can press space to steady the gun and use the sights. Great feature, easy to miss since it's not in the instructions. 4/5 until it's clearer.
You can compare the x-center of the ball to the x-center of the paddle to make an effect. I can demo an idea on my livestream if you want (see Holiday Block Breaker for an idea of it).
Very basic game, but OK. Areas of improvement: 1. paddle location NEEDS to influence the ball's motion, 2. some BG music could help, 3. could use a way to speed up the paddle motion (I use holding shift often in my games to speed up actors), 4. implement mouse controls, 5. add in different blocks and power-ups to fall down, 6. give it some tweak that keeps from being "just another block breaker game. You have a foundation here, so build on it ;)
It's OK. I played coming from Mochimedia (made one of these myself). My main qualm is that there is almost no incentive to miss the other spiders. Flies take so long to disappear that I never had one disappear (not sure if they do even disappear), and they don't spawn fast enough that you can't hit spiders on the way there. Also, hitting spiders doesn't subtract from the score. So, the only real thing that causes difficulty in the game doesn't create any difficulty, at least for me, which then takes away from any replay value. You also may want to make the different spider options more prominent. If I hadn't checked "how to play" and then SEARCHED for the character changer, I wouldn't have seen it. You have a lot of screen space on the menu, use it. Let us click on the spider we want (putting all 3 on screen at once). Hope the feedback helps.
Hey Abigayl, thanks for your feedback. Firstly the flies never disappear. The incentive to avoid the enemies spiders is that they stun you for a short time which means you lose part of your 60 seconds. The flies also only spawn once you collect the last one (unless you have a multifly). Personally I hate games where hitting an enemy loses score as it feels like my work/time invested getting that score has been wasted.
You are right about the Character Selection been a little difficult to figure out, thanks for your feedback.
I may make a "Reboot" version of this game later, so please let me know (via comment or PM) what you liked and/or didn't like so that I can make that one even better. Thank you :)
*After playing* Seriously, it's not half bad. I rated a 4/5. I'm not quite sure the multiplier works though since I tried the fastest for the 3x multiplier but didn't seem to register.
Thank you everyone for your ratings. If this tutorial can keep its rating up (3.80 at the time of writing this), it will be in position for third place in the weekly contest :)
I hope this tutorial helps out a lot of you understand the basics of enemies as well as the advanced level switching technique. Please critique (comment) if there is anything you would have preferred different. It's feedback that has helped me evolve these tutorials into be more accessible and user-friendly. Thank you.
Just FYI, you might experience a bit of lag in the game portion. Since I am doing a game inside of a tutorial, my lag is much higher than normal. You don't have to worry about lag if you make a game based on the tutorial.
Just as a heads up: The scrollbar menu no longer keeps a change if the mouse leaves the focus. Hope it helps :) (learned how to do it when doing tutorial 2)
Thank you everyone for your support, as well as your patience in waiting for this tutorial to come out. Jumping can be one of the most complicated things to program, and even worse to explain, but I hope it makes sense. :)
Too busy of an interface IMO. To find the achievements (thanks Sidera), click on the button on the top right INSIDE your character info (took me a while to find it). Also, when you have them both, screenshot then refresh and log back in for the badges to work.
FYI, you can BLOCK the game to stop the spam messages! Please + this comment to let others know about it too (and rate 1/5 while you're at it to discourage the spamming in the future).
