deathanj3l, it might be that Mardek didn't bother to hang to 4 copper rings for 8 years... You might notice he starts with a sword and a chainshirt. Time has passed, and the characters have changed. I think that's only fair.
Pick a race with good bonusses for one weapon. Men of the West (+2 sword) of undead (+3 halberd) are nice! Only use that unit, only upgrade speed, weapon and armour. Never buy new units (unless you're good with halberds, then buy halberdiers. That can be done with starting money)... And that's it.
The game lags, and is quite inconsistent in which enemy tanks can be shot by guns and which needs cannons. In addition, it's repetitive and easy. Overall a solid 1/5
This game grows on you, as the involved strategy becomes more and more complex . I started out giving it a 2/5, but quickly upgraded to 4/5. However, I found the learning curve from lvl. 1 to lvl. 2 a bit harsh, and lost my first several fights on lvl. 2.
After having lost the last level several times, trying various more or less clever tactics, I turned on autosend, selected a row, and kept on sending my swordsmen... I sat and watched the game play it itself, and won without any effort. :( I could have left the computer, if not for the fact that I had to press 'q' once I had earned a charge. Sad that this is the winning strategy in an otherwise great game.
The way to open new areas is just stupid. Killing the same kind of minions for what feels like hours is not the way to make a fun game. I've got the easy and medium badge, and I won't even try for the card. Simply not worth my time!
Demon badge: I played Welcome to Hell, and stayed back at first. As soon as I was able, however, I grabbed a rocket and just walked into the fray, shooting randomly all the time. That meant I picked up lots of power-ups. Whenever I got a turret, of either kind, I placed it. Remember to place barricades in front of your turrets, or they'll get ripped apart. So, one layer of turrets, then one layer of barricades. Be carefull not to get boxed in, then you'll die as you'll be unable to reinforce your positions.
I'm a math teacher, and would actually love an offline version of this game, perhaps with difficulty options, or other numbers included. Have you considered making a such, and selling it for a fair (low) price, with a license for school use?
With the speed of this game, it'll take about 100 hours to complete the impossible challenge: First complete in epic mode, then complete the campaigns. I'm not even going to spend time trying...
I like the game. However, it should count sold and lost units seperate. As it is now, it's impossible to keep my looses down, since I need to upgrade to more powerfull weaponry. If you could only sell between missions, people wouldn't use it to save damaged buildings, and you could actually have a looses-rate of 0!
For the later levels: When you lift a hut, have a energy field ready for the jetpacks or acrobats, and then either an anvil for the supermen, or a powerglove for the swordsmen.
Noobofdoom, for swordsmen just equip yout trusty powerglove (the first evil spell). They're unable to hurt you, but will still swing their silly swords, and leave themself open to a good old zap. :)
Great game! One minor annoyance is that it's sometimes hard to center the cursor on the 'player' to restart, especially if you're being pushed. But that's only a minor problem. 5/5
