To the devs who keep saying that you have to keep playing it for it to be fun: If an idle game isn't fun, why on Earth would anyone WANT to keep playing it? You've got the formula backward - you need lots of progress early, then when we're hooked you slow down. It took me 6 days of playing this more than I would have liked just to hit level 3, which I guess opened the port. The problem is that those 6 days were so boring and tedious that the only reason I'm still on this page is to leave critical comments, and I'll never be back, so even if the port is the best thing since sliced bread, it doesn't matter.
I reserve 1 stars for games that just don't function. My 1 star policy was sorely tested on this one. I enjoy idle games occasionally, but this one was never fun at any point. It was never creative, or interesting, or any other positive adjective. It was a boring, time sucking, soul sucking vacuum of a game.
Really should have done the impossible badge 8 years ago when I was younger and twitchier... I know I got into the high 20's a couple of times then, and now I'm doing well to hit 10k.
It's awesome how the damage stalls right at the end. I'm not normally one who accuses games of being rigged, but when you're blasting away with guns, torpedoes, and missiles all at once and watching the boss's health slowly fall, then it just stops right at the end while he kills you three times with the pearl laser, it's a little, um, fishy.
Very cute and well made platformer, but really could use the ability to skip story panels (I know you spent time and love on them, and some people live for that stuff; it's just not for me.) Rebinding keys, or at least a menu option to set what all of the controls are, would be nice.
I enjoyed this game when it was first on the site, and I enjoy it now. However, some of my keypresses aren't registering, which is making the game a little ... unpredictable. Doesn't happen with other games.
For those hating the intro sound, a feature of chrome (and other browsers?) that you may have missed is that you can right click on the tab and Mute Site. It's useful for a lot of the games on here with poor sound controls.
Holy cow, finally. I finally managed to beat this on hardcore. I wish it had been some new strategy I used, but unfortunately it just wound up being luck - a couple of mage towers/contests near the beginning that suited my particular party and put me roughly 3/4 of a level ahead of where I normally would have been. It made the plains, desert, and jungle easy, and with a small amount of common sense the tundra and waste were done as well.
@beepdot It won't let you sink too many skill points into any one skill. Not sure of the exact ratio, but if you put points into other skills it will eventually reopen the one you want (max life, in your case.)
I'm not a huge fan of racing/riding games, but this was quite fun. My only suggestion is that turn around might have gone better earlier in the tutorial sequence. I kept hitting the spacebar accidentally and not realizing why I was stuck facing backward.
I'm embarrassed to admit that I only just now figured out what their names mean... Jeez. Thanks for the excellent game - if you expand it (you should) then I'd love to see any other ideas you have for Topdee to work especially. Topdee was a jump arranger an awful lot. The button level showed a lot of promise.
Haha :) Thanks. Yeah Topdee was a bit of an errand boy, I have a lot of ideas for the full version which will hopefully make it feel a bit more balanced.
Thanks for playing!
Great game, though there are a couple of changes that would make it a bit friendlier, in my opinion. A single up button press should move the ground one unit. I spend a lot of time watching the guy bob up and down while I try not to overshoot the level change I want. Also, if a star goes off screen, it is deleted from the game. Intentional? 5/5
Star deletion is intentional. It's sort of like when the coins go off screen. But I can see what you mean about the bobbing! I'll try to push out an update soon-ish!
To quickly(ish) get the medium badge, go good and align with angels. Buy buildings and upgrades until you can get the Angel Upgrades (100 angel coins). Buy at least the first two upgrades (+mana regen and -100 mana per spell.) Let your mana fill to 1000, cast God's Hand, then Call to Arms ASAP. With both running you get an enormous bonus. If your regen is high enough, use Tax Collection as often as you can while both are going. You will earn 100's of gems per cast. Once you can afford the +50% spell duration buff it's ridiculous how fast you get to 5000 gems.
I beat all but the last level with archers, cavalry, and warriors. It was a little disappointing that I didn't need other units or further upgrades to progress.
