Seriously, I understand everyone is playing to win but, if I see another Cornelius, Yoshiro, Phoebe/Rumiko team, I think I might cry. I know that it is probably the best team, but there are so many other decks to build. Also, I understand that not everyone has the cards to try building crazy decks but the designers gave us the random option so we wouldn't have to be trapped by conformity.
"is chess simply a formula?" Well, kinda. There are chess playing computers that can beat any human opponent, living, dead, or superman. Moreover, these computers are not learning computers, they function based on a predetermined program or, if you prefer, a complex formula. Kongai differs from chess in that (as proven by the terrible Kong-bot) a non-learning computer cannot hope to beat a human player in a match of any significant length. Certainly, the best programed kongai playing computer would not beat you 100% of the time like a chess playing computer will. (I acknowledge the fact that a world-class chess player might be able to repeatedly stalemate a computer.)
pwnagellama: we've discussed this at some length and you do make some good points about the relative value of skill and luck in this game. However, skilled players will still beat unskilled players a great majority of the time. I know you think that "majority of the time" should be changed to "all the time" and I'm sure many people would agree with you. But, what you're asking for is essentially a rewrite of the entire game. Whether or not this would be for the better, it just is not going to happen. Some tweaks to certain moves, characters, or items might take place, but the sort of change you're asking for simply will not. Also, suggestions such as "double or triple everyone's HP," while they make sense to you, would send many players who feel that the games take too long running for the hills. I think reasonable solutions must not just better the game for more serious players such as yourself but, also for the casual players who only play occassionally.
ok, I understand the point you guys are trying to make, once you remove the luck the game becomes all about skill. I'm saying if you remove luck then you have to change the game entirely. All percentages have to either be 100% or zero 0%. First, popo is gone. Every one of his/her moves has a coin flip attached. Second, many of the items are gone. Third, every character not killed entirely by the changes has to go through extensive revamping. For example, Vanessa Voss' double slash doesn't miss any more. Now you have nothing to say to people who call it and her overpowered because you can't say "well it misses 10% of the time." All the stun and interrupt moves need to have their chances increased to 100%, which makes them ridiculously good, or decreased to 0, which makes them boring. Now maybe you guys want to play this new game you've created, but I like things as they are now. Sure, I get killed by three consecutive slingshot crits in a row but, thats worth it to me.
PwnageLlama: The luck in Kongai is like your balls. Sure, you can get hit in the balls and that sucks real bad, no doubt balls are sometimes a hindrance. However, that doesn't mean balls should be removed. Our balls are what make our lives worth living, even if they hurt sometimes, things would be super boring without them. Please don't ask to neuter Kongai.
MobileAlabama: I disagree. While I also get frustrated when I lose games to streaks of bad luck, I think these luck based elements need to stay in the game. I think if every move were a sure thing (Yoshiro's Rising Dragon comes to mind) then the game would be get very boring. There would would be no risk taking and the person that started to win would inevitably beat their opponent. There would be no ablility for players to get back into the game after a bad start. The way the game is now, yes, you can get one hit killed. But, you can also come back from such a setback and win the game if you allow yourself the chance to get lucky.
It looks like they took losses off of the scoreboard. I thought that it was a good thing, if anything I would like a lot more score reporting, not less.
This game is all kinds of terrible. Besides having boring, repetitive gameplay; archers can shoot you before you see them, enemies can sometimes attack after decapitated, attacks do seemingly random amounts of damage, enemies are either inexplicably easy or extremely difficult. If you encounter a lone enemy you kick the crap out of them and they can't do anything, if you encounter more than one enemy they kick the crap out of you and you can do nothing. Just terrible, don't play it, not worth the challenge or badges.
awesomeperson: there was a point in the beta where andromeda did have a close range attack. Needless to say, that got changed. The fact that she now lacks a close-range attack is part of the balance of her character.
This game is great. It has simple controls yet requires a lot of skill. It did take a while to grow on me but as soon as I saw one of the harder enemies I was hooked. The award and reward system adds a lot of depth to the game and greatly increases its replay value. This is an instant classic.
Here I am agreeing with that guy that just beat me. Don't run from high level players, its hard for us to find games. However, if you choose to play someone don't forfeit just because you're down a character, or got intercepted. The luck aspect of the game that so many people complain about allows some of the most hopeless looking games to be salvaged.
I'm actually surprised by how much I hate this game. I ususally enjoy games of this variety (filler for example) but for some reason this isn't fun at all. A combination of short timeframes, poor collision detection, and a general lack of variety in gameplay doesn't make me want to play this. There are better games of the genre out there, I'd suggest trying one of them.
Ok, so I think that trading is a really terrible idea mostly because of the low number of cards and obvious potential for abuse. However, I've now got a full set and multiples of many cards. It would be neat if players like myself could give our extra cards away to those less fortunate. If something like that isn't implemented I don't really see the point of allowing duplicate characters (although having doubles of some of the items can be good).
I'm a ranking player and I agree with Richard233. It's hard for higher level players to find games and it would neat to be paired with people who actually want to play us.
Ok, generally speaking, I think that the characters and moves are pretty well designed and fairly balanced. However, I believe Andromeda's trueshot needs to have 100% accuracy. I mean really, its called trueshot, not 97% shot.
A list of things that will never happen in this game: 1) Trading. 2) Further increasing of the card drop rate. 3) Creating our own cards.
Any of these things might seem like a neat additions to the game but they all have practical problems that far outweigh the minor benefit they would have.
Ravonos: although i generally agree with you, remember that cornelius is immune to slow effects, which affect the speed of moves. He's balanced as he is, but his innate ability does kinda suck.
