I'm actually very disappointed at the performance of most other weapons compared to the Flak Cannon. Tesla Towers, Particle Beams, even Plasma Cannons could use a bit of tweaking to make them competitive.
Flak Cannons, Flak Cannons, Flak Cannons. They do a ton of damage per shot, and if they shoot at something big and/or close to them it's like a shotgun... multiple shards hit it, doing multiple hits of damage. Grab a Seismic Thumper or two to concentrate the masses of ground creatures, but the game is won fastest with a mess of Flak Cannons.
No indication how stars are earned. Game plays perfect timing at all times (possible exception being when weapons are charged, but I think the game is just waiting for a key target to become prominent), regardless of difficulty. Game demonstrates superior control of bubbles, making them able to move at any speed even without the lightning buff while yours crawl along. Inconsistent, with too high a curve and extra advantage to machine. Finally stalled at level 33, which appears completely unwinnable after many iterations attempted. Broken, in a way that makes you work to realize it. 1/5
There's an issue with getting the game to recognize where the cursor is so things can be properly clicked. Words cannot adequately describe how much I hate this. The game would be great fun if it weren't for this, but as it is I have to give it a 1/5
Finally just got too tired of it when I reached the challenge level with the spiked floor and the bird platforms. The game wants too much and gives too little... no upgrades, no special skills, nothing. I'll give it a pity 2/5 because it's Nitrome... but what a disappointment of a Nitrome game. Especially the 100th.
Also, PLEASE stop monsters from leaving the field of battle to the left or right. If you're going to restrict how far we can turn our heads, then at least keep them in visual range. Having a Red Dragon fly off the edge and then keep attacking is just unfair. Of course... if you want to enable us to leave the monsters' field of vision and get strings of free attacks as well... I wouldn't say no.
You already start with a level of Fire. Fire is your fire attack. Solar is healing. Water is a Freeze spell. Earth is a Meteorite spell. Air is a Slow Time spell. More ranks just improves the spell of that element somehow, you don't get different spells. IMO Slow Time is the best... it seems like it requires targeting but doesn't, it just slows time on the entire battlefield and slowly drains your mana. More ranks of Air increases it's duration and reduces it's mana cost.
You change spells using the button just above the Career Menu button on the far left side of the UI. It'll look like the elemental symbol for whatever element you're currently using.
Other notes: Too much debris. It can be hard to see where you're going at higher speeds just from bouncing around and lots of debris flying back toward the camera. BadMole has a good idea where you should see more stats at the end of each run. Coin rewards should be given for various plateaus at the end of each run and larger rewards should come with achievements. No scroll should be put where getting it will definitely break your chain. When going for high chains, Wind scrolls will preserve your chain if you need to miss a few and recover (and preserve your chain if you use a shadow cloak and slip up so it triggers), while Thunder scrolls are nice to make it okay if you slip up and jump at a Goliath or slide at a Sweeper. If you have plenty of cloaks, just use them constantly after about the third or fourth gate if you know you're going for a long run or high chain.
want to buy ability to sell boosters and cloaks. Have over 80 of each, every lucky-cat-based character unlocked (you'd think this would make winning the jackpot easier, but in unlocking them all and so getting over 300 character items from the cat, I've never gotten more than 5k in one pull), and I just need coins now.
Saved and quit after stage 6 last night. Came back today, hit continue, got most of the way through stage 7. Game froze... cursor could still move, although it was jerky. Character and monsters stayed frozen. Pause did not work. Hit achievements but could not Return to game. Reloaded game, and my save game is lost. Reloaded Firefox, save game still lost. 1/5 for buggy, broken game.
Remember your achievements: Every 50 points of achievements you get, you can choose a reward such as +1% shield regen rate, +1% max damage and so forth. There's a lot of possible rewards but you only see three at a time. Don't see what you want? Exit the Choose A Reward window and click Use Reward again. Which possible rewards come up is random!
Got it... the starslide after Passing Gas is far too rare. I've ridden it maybe a half-dozen times in all these years, seen it maybe that often again, and most of the time, I'll hit the tail and lose all momentum. Screw this, what jerk thought this was a good idea? Maybe a petition to remove the badge, since it seems to be unattainable... it's by and far the hardest "Impossible" badge I've encountered. Kind of ruins the point of Kong badges.
Shot far, far past New Horizons... no restaurant. Probably my tenth post saying it does not exist, but I went much farther than ever before and it's still not there. How rude.
