Wouldn't work for me, either. Picked a name & character but it wouldn't let me select a level. I went to deathmatch and chose a random level and the game froze literally one second in. Sorry, but it's 1/5 until it gets fixed. I'm not holding my breath since it was uploaded almost 2 years ago.
Agreed on instructions. Also on the one-attack-per-click thing. It would also be nice if the character would follow the pointer if you held down the button.
I also don't like calling a game an RPG if you have no control over your character's attributes or skill set other than an initial choice of character class. And will this dungeon I'm in ever end?
Oh, and way to go with occasionally putting a bear in front of an enemy that's a third of its size, thereby making it nigh on impossible to attack the other enemy in a timely fashion should we decide to get rid of it first.
As a full game this just feels mediocre to me. It's fun exploring the world and all, but there are a few things that keep it from excelling. The combat system is irritating. Games like this should not require multiple clicks just to do a standard attack. Let me just click the enemy I want to hit. And god help you if you click a little low and hit the skill button by accident because then you have to back out and start over. Also there appears to be a bug where sometimes I click attack and then click an enemy and it says I can't perform that action on that character. Then it's another series of clicks to be able to attack successfully. Also, while I appreciate the way purchasing game money keeps the game itself free, the lack of decent items available for free really seems cheap. You'd think the developers could strike a little balance there. And god forbid an enemy drops an item every now and then. A piece of armor that increases defense by a point or two? Something?
It was going to be a 3/5 after the first level, but the second level gets it a 2. Also -- If you view the directions there appears to be an "x" you can click to close the panel yet clicking does absolutely nothing.
Pseudo, when I said "cheap" I meant the intricate vine/ladder jumping sequences in which a fall meant almost certain death, only to be followed by a minute or more of playing to get back to the part that killed you. But as I just said, we have differing ideas about what is fun in games. You like jumping puzzles. I do not. I'm not out to change your mind. I don't hate you or your game. I hope I can maybe put other people's frustrations into words with a less personal tone. I suspect they are largely people who also do not care for all the jumping.
Haha...Well, Pseudo, it looks like you and I will be forever in disagreement on games, then, to some extent! I never played Tomb Raider. ;-) And while I don't necessarily care for mindless violence, I wouldn't mind a little less jump and a little more raid here. :P
Graphics, Wiciu? Really? This is clearly a retro/nostalgia game, a throwback to the classic games of our childhoods. Those of us who are over 20 or 25 (or 30) anyway. I find everything about the game quite charming. My only gripe is the difficulty that comes from endless jumping puzzles. Everything else is pretty good. If you're just in it for the graphics, go play a console game.
My 3/5 ranking is in spite of the flaws that, for me, make this game too frustrating. If Kong. badges are added I might be enticed to push through at least part of it, but until then it just doesn't feel worth my while. It's all the jumping. I know jumping is a game staple, but it's also a cliche of sorts. The "jumping" levels are almost always the worst in any given game. Similarly, the finesse jumps from short vine to short vine with spikes both above and below and no way to get back up if you fall? Weak. As I said, there's nothing wrong with a hard game. But some of the difficulty here manifests in a cheap way that really detracts from my enjoyment of the game. Maybe more checkpoints are in order so that you don't have to play through two minutes of the game just to get back to the part that actually kills you each time. Just a couple of modifications and this would be one of my favorites, I think. A lesser game with these same difficulties would get a 2 tops from me.
Pseudolonewolf, I pretty much agree with most of what KitchenSink is saying, with the exception of customizing the advance text button. I find the control setup perfectly fine. I just find the control itself to be too clunky for my taste. As to the ladder/vine grabbing, maybe if there were some sort of mode you could toggle on and off. I dunno. The problem is that the game is brutally unforgiving. While there's nothing wrong with a hard game, the first one was just too much and I see little to indicate any improvement here. The problem is that the game was 95% jumping puzzles, several of which led to almost certain death if you missed a single jump. It took me almost an hour to reach that first boss and then 5 minutes of being slaughtered before I saw the pattern. It's endless repetition with controls that feel less than fluid at times. 3/5.
