I don't really like the way the enemies are so much better than your characters, and you only win because of superior strategy. Even some of the weakest enemies have archers with several times your ranged character's HP. All it takes is for one of the crossbow users to hit your rear lines a few times and you're as good as dead. If one of my crossbow users hits them the same number of times, their health is hardly dented.
Why on earth do you punish us for taking multiple tries to finish a level? We can just exit to the menu and come back, resetting the "retries" counter, so all you're doing is making life difficult for no gain whatsoever.
Actually I take it back. Mana leak is slow, but the other skills for the Great Sea mages are just incredibly powerful. (Spoilers)
I became No. 1 right after I reported to the head of the black mages after saving the prison, far sooner than my last mage.
Brief summary of the bugs/errors in the game: Schyzo moves slower on the edge of the level (if the camera doesn't pan when he walks), achievement descriptions don't match the values, upgrades/cheats can be purchased/entered and the game reset to keep your original soul/cash values (achievements and stats relating to upgrades get reset as well), hospital box only works once per box, reload and berserk time tick down while paused (some animations also play while paused), levels that require cash only "complete" when you finish the entire level (you can't quit early) and reload sounds play despite the game being muted. Click + if you want these errors fixed.
Can you disable the annoying "fall off the wall if you move the mouse too fast" thing? If I wanted to move off the wall, I would have pressed the mouse button. As it is, if I want to jump in the other direction I end up falling off. Also, mouse-controlled games that aren't fullscreen need to have a system where it pauses if you click move outside the game area. Or at least have a larger area and a "deadzone" around it where moving the mouse there doesn't increase jump distance but at least it still counts as a click.
I really wish there was a "clean up" button, so that old, useless buildings (depots, sniper towers), could have all their contents removed. It doesn't really make sense that to get them to take the last few boards and bullets from a tower we have to destroy it, then salvage the contents from the rubble.
At one point - I think on my second attempt at perfection on level 3 - the whole thing screwed up. Special and bullets don't recharge (which I think is normal), but bullets didn't hurt the enemies, and their bullets don't hurt me. I could hit them with the paddle as normal.
The least you could do is have the collision detection be sensible. Objects where entire corners are empty will still kill you if you touch the bounding box of the shape.
Yeah, if you're going to make a deterministic physics-based game, don't f**k it up by adding random elements. If I wanted to sit there for 30 seconds firing shots intentionally off the screen until the colour I wanted came up (I get bad luck, I guess), I would play a shooter and not a puzzle game.
Are you teaching fractions to two year olds? Does a cute penguin and fireworks for successfully completing a level really appeal to your target market?
Even though the gameplay is simple, the game engine is so well designed and the artwork so exceptional that I never regret the time spent completing it. 5/5
